Mavericks seek legal ruling against Stars as ongoing arena feud reaches boiling point

The relationship between American Airlines Center cotenants has deteriorated over the last 12 months.

A yearlong breakdown in the Mavericks and Stars’ relationship came to a head Tuesday morning, when Dallas’ NBA franchise filed suit against the city’s NHL team.

The teams have had uneven starts to their 25th seasons as American Airlines Center’s tenant couple, but their struggles on the court and the ice appear benign compared to the behind-the-scenes strife in the organizations’ relationship.

Late Tuesday morning, Mavericks ownership filed in Texas Business Court a 253-page petition for injunctive relief against Stars ownership, seeking legal finality on a breach of contract dispute the Mavericks raised in October 2024.

The Mavericks allege the Stars are in breach of a clause in their 1998 franchise agreement that requires their corporate headquarters to be located within the city of Dallas, while also claiming in the injunction that the Stars have obstructed further maintenance and improvements to American Airlines Center. The Stars’ headquarters and practice facility have been located in Frisco since 2003.

I have no idea what difference it makes for the Mavs if the Stars HQ is in Dallas or Frisco, seems like petty business.
Defense wins draft lotteries!
Fortune favours the bold, so it ducked Nico Harrison.

That's exactly the case.
Mavs had to bring up rhe Stars for what is probably their only violation. Replace the practice court at American Airlines with ice for the hockey team then.

They are a disaster.

Trust me the city does want them gone. No one is holding their breath though. Adelson and Dumont aren’t going anywhere until the new arena is complete though. The Mavs went through this same thing in the late 90’s with Ross Perot Jr. as soon as the new arena was up and running he sold the team to Cuban.

If not for Laura Miller, Jerry's World would be at Fair Park. She truly screwed the city she was supposed to be representing.

Kinda crazy they want a new stadium when the AAC is still fantastic.

Wherever they put the new stadium, it needs to at least border downtown. Someone suggested the jail, which I think is ideal.
Nico definitely got rid of the dry powder.

Facts, **** Seahag. She didn’t believe that Dallas needed pro sports at all. Laura Miller was one of the worst mayors in Dallas history.

As for the stadium, I still think the most likely spot for it will be in Irving where the old Texas Stadium was. There is more than enough room to build the stadium and then add a casino later if gambling is voted in in Texas. Plus Miriam Adelson already owns all that land.

I also read that the city wants to move the jail (Lew Sterrett) further to the south. There was a report last week that said Lew Sterrett was at capacity. If they move it that would open up all that land as a potential site. A lot would have to happen for that to be the site though.

Thank you for the information.
I think that area does make sense. This will just be an odd change when it happens.

Move this cluster f*ck to Vegas and let us start over. There seems to be very little fan support for this team at all, much less a new stadium. Dumbot+Nico have thoroughly severed this fanbase. I assume it was malicious and on purpose to make way for the Vegas move. If it was incompetence and they really want to stay and get a new stadium, then the level of arrogance and incompetence is staggering .
