Sorry to hear about Dirk & I hope he makes it back for playoffs this year. As a Knicks fan, we went through this with the Ewing injury some years ago. It ruined our season.

You've got a nice team, and I wish you luck this year, and the next couple seasons. Like your team much more than those crummy spurs.

If Dirk's injury is bad as it looked like, your season will be really tough from now on

Unfortunate for the Mavs. They have 2 huge road games coming up against the Nuggets and Warriors. If Dirk misses a good amount of time I'd say its more likely than not that the Nuggets bump the Mavs out of the playoffs.

Is our pick lottery protected?

will it matter? it'll be number 14 anyways or whatever the worst pick is and we'll wind up with some scrub no doubt. i dont think we'll get lucky like portland did last year. hell, even when the mavs were amongst the worst teams in history they still couldn't win the lottery.

If Avery REALLY wanted to copy Popovich verbatim, then he would tank

Even if we lose the rest of the games this season and every other team wins all the rest of their games (though that's impossible), we would still have a better record than:

Seattle
Memphis
Minnesota
Clippers
Sacramento
New Jersey
Atlanta
Indiana
Chicago
Charlotte
Milwaukee
New York
Miami

So all 7 eastern conference lotto teams will draft in front of us and guaranteed 5 western ones in front of us. 6 western teams if Portland loses at the same 47% rate. Knowing that, yes, we could tank, but it will only get us the 14th pick (the lowest lotto pick).

the positive if we did miss the playoffs is the draft is deep enough that we should definitely get a solid contributor

And all of the pessimists here are forgetting there is a reason the first 14 picks are called the Lottery. Every team has a weighted shot at the first 3 picks.

Have a little optimism here even if mavs miss the playoffs.

what do u mean weighted shot? b/c if we finish 14th you have like a 1 in a 1000 chance to get the pick

I DVRed the game but a buddy called and warned me not to watch.

I'm going to vomit. This sucks.

Sidenote: Thanks to all the fans of other teams that gave kind words. For those who were jerks, may a devestating injury occur to your franchise player.

It's amazing how well the Mavs is until Dirk is down. They held TD scoreless and the Spurs to 25% FG% & 14% 3P%.

Dirk gets all his blocked shots on Tim Duncan. When Dirk's out, TD finds his shooting touch. We're severely outrebounded. Of course, we can't score anything since then.

We play exceptionally well until misfortune happen.

It'd be awful if we miss Dirk, the playoff, and the pick all together. I hope it's not the case.
