With the Nets getting Lopez, I highly doubt Diop stays in their plans now.

Mavs need to focus on Some SGs like Azubuike and maybe Pietrus first. If we can't get them, then I'd rather have Diop at MLE than the nobody we signed last year...literally. Diop is worth MLE, but Damp at C and the Dirk/Bass combo will be played too much to have any PT for Diop. On the other hand, we we trade Bass & Stack for a SG, then I would not mind the Damp/Diop combo again.

Lopez and Yi to NJN makes Diop expendable
seems like Kiki doesn't even want him
or is doing his old friends a favor...

I knew when they took Lopez that Diop was to be let go. He knows where he's going and where he's playing next year, he only doesn't know for how much at this point...

It would be nice if New Jersey would s&t Diop to us so we would still have the mle left.

it depends on how much they want to S&T him or if they even have the ability to do so.

They have full bird rights so they've got the ability.

Donnie and Mark need to get a clue fast if they plan on offering Diop that type of money. It's time for them to gain some sense and stop making stupid decisions during free agency. As much as I want Diop back, I still don't view him as highly as some of you do, but at this point we really need him here.

we do need a reliable second C. diop can be that, btu the whole MLE seems to be a bit much. why let him be the filler in a trade and send him away for no reason, than get him back for the whole MLE?? that makes no sense and is bad management

I'm curious as to what the Mavs could get with half the MLE. I'm guessing they feel there's nothing out there and would just rather reward Diop for being a team player.

Those factors could more than double Diop’s $2.2 million salary and net him the Mavs’ entire mid-level exception, expected to be valued between $5.5 million and $5.7 million.

"It would not shock me," Donnie Nelson, Mavs president of basketball operations, said of Diop commanding the entire mid-level exception. "Centers are going to be pricier."

The Mavs will have competition for the 7-foot, 26-year-old Diop. The Miami Heat is reportedly interested. However, the Mavs could hold the edge against any competition. Diop still lives in Dallas and since being traded, has maintained his interest in returning.

So will the Mavs use their entire mid-level to shore the center position when they also need 3-point shooting and depth?

There a number of players who could interest the Mavs, including possibly Kings forward Ron Artest. According to one report, Artest will opt out of his contract.

Cuban said that he included Diop in the trade because he would probably cost the Mavs or they would have lost him for nothing. Now they have to use vital resources to resign him so that we can become a championship caliber team.

This makes absolutely no sense unless Stack and Bass are being shopped aggressively.

Miami just offered Maggette their MLE so they are no longer a threat to take Diop away.

Please don't use the full MLE on Diop. Go After Maggette instead. S/T for Diop if you want him that bad.

Con, I figured that we could S&T George and S&T Jones for Diop. That would give him about a paycheck of $4 million which he deserves. He was making about $2.1 million which is kind of low for an athletic, offensive rebounding, shot blocking center. This gets rid of two swing men which we seem to be overloaded on right now, but not Stackhouse. I don't know if Jersey would go for this or not. They wanted George previously, his versatility precedes him everywhere he goes... Jones would probably retire/do nothing for a paycheck a la Keith Van Spare.

It's just getting Maggette to realize that coming here would be the right thing for him and would probably net him a ring. If the man wants the MLE, it's the same wherever he goes...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...
