What abt Whiteside? He seems troubled, but is he worth consideration?

If there's an interest I doubt we want him for more than one year and I would assume he's waiting for multiple years.

Whiteside likely is not the type the Mavs are looking for now. Used to be a few years ago. It appears to me like they are looking fora big who is more mobile and versatile out on the perimeter. Whiteside can't guard smaller wings.

By the way, Giles just signed with Portland.

I think DeMarcus Cousins will sign with the mavericks. You read it here first (LOL)

Can he be had with the remainder of our MLE or is he more expensive? Think he will sign a 1 year deal? What other options do we have to man the middle?

I don’t know if Gasol will be the guy since he seems to have a couple of suitors already however I do expect they will sign one more big before all is said and done. Once all the money dries up there will be a couple of serviceable bugs available and the Mavs will likely just pick the best one.

i dont like it unless it came with a team option for the second year

edit: and it did, team option on the second year. Yay for continuity with our system and preserving cap flexibility.
Psychotic. It didn’t make sense. I don’t know how you make it make sense

I think most people expected this... actually I think WCS and the Mavs probably both expected this to happen two months ago. WCS was telegraphing something like this to the media. He worked on his 3-point shot, and they gave him a raise.

I think both sides were happy with each other, and had similar goals. He knew what the organization wanted and where he would fit.

2-years deal? I don't like it at all. I'd prefer Gasol.

Gasol didn't want to come here (or Golden State either). It boiled down to Toronto and LA.

We have 16 players that have guaranteed contracts and one will be cut.

No longer available for those who mentioned him.

Chris Haynes: Free agent center Bismack Biyombo has reached an agreement with the Charlotte Hornets, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

Fine, guess we're done in free agency now - all in on 2021. Let's see if we do anything in the trade market.

I think at this point, the team just plays and has fun running it back to the playoffs. Lots of new faces so they need to build chemistry again. Shouldnt be too hard.

Brad Townsend
@townbrad

I'm told that Mavs do in fact have 16 players committed to guaranteed contracts, plus Bey and Hinton on 2-ways and Gillespie on an e10 deal.

That means someone will be cut, eventually and, source says "it will be a competitive training camp."

At this point in his career Gasol is a stiff. He’s not nearly the player he was. WCS does more of the things the Mavs like to do. Plus he knows the system and fits in great in the locker room.

So it comes down to those 3 players. Bey, Hinton, Gillespie... who wants it more?

The way I read it, the 2-ways (Bey and Hinton) and Gillespie are all safe with their contracts.

Below are the 16 players.

Powell, Maxi, Boban WCS
Uwandu, Richardson, Hardaway, Green
Terry, Burke, Luca, Brunson,
Barea, DFS, Johnson, Porzingas

Someone in that group of 16 above will get cut.

Maybe Gillespie's Exhibit 10 contract is optional. I don't know. My guess is that they've told Barea he's going to have to win a roster spot from players like Uwandu or maybe Terry. But I'm thinking Barea isn't going to make the cut.

Agree with the above. Get the feeling that Barea and Carlisle want to see where he stands. My guess is that that was the reason they signed Uwandu maybe? Or if team looks great, they sell Hardaways expiring somehow for picks, not what i hope for tho. Personnally think JJB should see the end, its never fun to see someone playing too long and screw up his legacy. I want him and Dirk on the coaching staff, that would be nice=)

Personally I felt it last year that Barea started to slip, but now its up to the new young guns to show that they deserve the spot
