I would like to see us acquire a first round pick so we can draft Drake Powell. Cooper Flagg and Drake Powell!

Don't know much about Powell, what do you like about him?
I'd prefer to get into the 2nd rounand draft Tyrese Proctor. I think he can be a fly under the radar guy like Brunson. Not that level of course, but a solid, reliable rotation guy

Yeah, Powell is super athletic and a good defender but with limited offensive skills.
Basically another Josh Green.
And he's projected to go late teens early 20s so we'd have to give up a lot to get him. Could be another Herb Jones so that is why he is projected so high.
I like Clayton as an offensive spark off the bench who looks like he could eventually transition to a PG in the NBA.
That's why I wouldnt mind trading for Jrue and getting 28 and maybe 32 in return and take Clayon at 28.
Gafford/Klay for Jrue/28/32.
Who says no?

Looking at the Finals, I feel like Flagg could get a lot of free throw attempts in transition with tons of mismatches under the basket like J-Will does. Actually, if Flagg plays 2/3, random NBA players are not as tall or as althetic to stop a transition layup (if the spacing is right).

Are the Mavs trying to build a block city? Lively-AD-Flagg-PJ lineup will definitely block tons of shot. I am not sure that it means better defense or controlling the rhythm and floor game on the floor. Scoring efficiently without much turnover is also a premise for the big lineup works. 3 point percentage above 40 percent the whole year is needed. That means both Lively and AD have to improve drastically to make it work.

Someone has broken down Flagg's defense. For a big lineup to work, it requires some adjustments.

The worst spacing in NBA history when NBA teams are shooting 50/60 triples per game... Great idea.

There are reports that Flagg had a 2nd dinner in Dallas with future Mavs teammates. Wonder if Kyrie was one of those guys.

Not sure if Kyrie was there or not. I did read that his workout for the Mavs went better than expected. They expected him to look good in his workout and instead he looked great.

OK, the Mavs will face Luka for the 1st NBA meeting. I think the sentiment is there. Both sides would like to send a message.

If Coop's as good as advertised, Mavs will have to find a way to employ his brother Ace next year. He's not as good as Coop, but the parents might ask a favor.

Re: Cooper Flagg -- Season 1 thread
I have thought a bit about how the big lineup works:
1.MJ's Chicago Bulls / Udoka's Boston Celtics strategy: Create mismatches and play one-on-one with some inside-out and triangle strategy with some sort of Indiana Pacers passing game and backdoor cut.
2.Then what you do is training up 3 point shooting from particular spots. If you're out of spot, get back to the paint again. If you're left unguarded from the sweet spot, take it every time. If it doesn't go it, let it be. Works harder in practice. In this way, you only need to shoot well from 1-2 spots in particular.
3.Get to the gym room and get ready for the battles in paints for tough physical plays, like 2025 OKC team.
4.Get to become a great free throw shooting team like Reggie Miller's Indiana Pacers.
5.Run some practices how to climb from behind like 2025 Indiana Pacers.
6.If the driving lane is opened, learn how to react. Learn from 2025 Finals. Pacers has done tremendous job in this situation. Learn how to steal from the baseline like TJ McConnell does. The Mavs is so long and athletic. It's a potential strength if you can play press defense and full court defense at times.
7.Learn how to run fastbreaks.
In short, on offense - win by mismatches, set shooting (get discipline in receiving the ball and get ready to shoot), offball movements and extra possessions with physical plays and more free throws; on defense - make broken plays and generate fastbreaks, help out one another if you've got blown by. Always stay in front and contest shots. Maximize your length with one another.
I am still thinking about how to make it works against team playing five out strategy.

Re: Cooper Flagg -- Season 1 thread
If you can stop all perimeter jumpers and force opponents to take mid-range contested jumpers. Then, you can start Klay or or BWill Hardy as well. The trio can bring the ball upfront. To play iso ball from one side, you'll only need to make sure that you establish position and pass well without turning the ball over.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed, it's not a big deal, but I noticed that Cooper's mom is more of a stage mother and is focused on running it like a business. All about dollars. Very different vibe when Luka was drafted and his mom at the time. Or even Lively's mom for what it's worth.
