He is really good defensively which means him and DFS will be hounding the best opposing players while Luka and KP remain out of foul trouble. Covington is as big as Milsap and they are rhe same height. I think he can play PF here with KP at center. The boost in defense would be tremendous.
If the Lakers and Celtics can play Kuzma and Tatum at PF, then Covington most definitely can too.
The Mavs would never send Powell to the bench (right or wrong... if you ask me that's wrong), so Covington would send DFS to the bench, which isn't such a bad thing either. Imagine DFS & Wright on the floor together guarding a team's second unit. I think that'd give us some nice +/- #s vs opposing teams' 2nd unit.
Not sure it's a big boost for the playoffs, unless you can get Covington, DFS & Wright on the floor together. Then you start to have the makings of a good defensive squad.
I'm all for adding Covington (as long as the price isn't exorbitant), and while he solves a lot of problems, he creates a few for this team too.
I really don't think Donnie built this team for any mid-season changes. He probably didn't think they'd be necessary... I don't know. Maybe he built it to have complimentary pieces around the superstar they hope to add in 2021 once Lee & THJ's money are off the books. It feels like as long as THJ is locked into the starting unit the flexibility isn't there with the roster.
