Sadly, don't have much faith in Cuban. This dude just turned into a complete degenerate.

If you're not aware, he is in the news because he lost like 4 million (pocket change) in a crypto exploit.

I cannot understand how the Mavs can allow such bad communication to happen and let the organization be ridiculed by freaking Tim Cato's article on the athletic. It's comical.

This was a model franchise in the early to mid 2000s.
I hope Cuban is financial problems, or sees great investment opportunity and sells the team.
Dallas is too serious a city for this **** show.

In fairness, there was no hint during the season of that much drama or anything suggesting any of this.

In fact, even after G7, everyone expected coach/GM to be back.

So........ even if there may have been some issues during the year, this was triggered by something that happened recently. And the logical expectation is that RC wants out because Nelson was fired.

He resigned, technically, Cuban can go to court and sue him for breach of contract (unless he has a clause), realistically, they both wish each other best of luck, and RC can go choose whichever team he wants coach away from this madness.
The only bright side of this, there's a chance for a coach that will utilize KP better.

He can’t sign with another team though correct. Not while he’s still under contract with the Mavs.

Cuban will waive it, there's no chance he stands in his way, RC wouldn't have made it public if Cuban was to stand in his way.

Why wouldn’t the Mavs want a draft pick from the Celtics if they want to sign Carlisle?

No doubt. After the Clippers loss everyone was clearly saying RC was coming back. Then the Athletic hit. Then Donnie, then RC. Not a coincidence.

I thought the players were used poorly, especially KP and the rookies. Game plan was hard to understand many nights. It was a reasonable excuse that the limited off season and compressed regular season was a handicap, but it was an area of concern.

I highly doubt it, is there a precedent?
Everyone assuming RC did step down, which is certainly possible, but it's common practice when some veteran in an organization is shown the way out to give him the opportunity to resign, RC press release screams internal conflict with Luka for the simple fact he didn't mention him.

Now this I understand. If Luca is OK with this resignation .... then - I hate to say this - I'm OK with this.

Getting another Luca is a lot harder than getting another Carlisle or Nelson

Yup.

Those guys were preparing to fly to Europe. Then out of the blue they're gone.

It's annoying that Cuban has lost his way so badly.

https://www.mavs.com/team/coaches/jamahl-mosley/

Before the 2018-19 season, Mosley became the club’s defensive coordinator, in charge of planning the defense’s strategy for every game.

That's pretty much disqualifying for a head coach position in my view.

I think the issue is the manner in which this happened.

Had this happened shortly after game 7 and in an "organic" way, fine.

Now... the way this happened makes the Mavs look pretty bad and incompetent.

Ha! Well, you have a point.

On the other hand, maybe Moseley would hire an established defensive coach.

The whole thing in a nutshell.

If Luca is happier and he signs a contract.... then I don't care all that much.

I like Carlisle, but he can be replaced. Luca can't.

It's 11PM in Slovenia, no one has a clue what Luka thinks about this. This was an old quote from a while ago.

We know that... although this is a recent tweet - see date.

The important tweet is the McMahon tweet above it.

"There had been simmering tension between Luka Doncic and Rick Carlisle that was a concern within the Mavs organization. The expectation was that he'd return next season, but he'd have been on the hot seat."

And...

@ZachLowe_NBA
To be clear, Tim and I recorded a few hours before Rick Carlisle's departure. But Tim lays out the reasons why Carlisle was on shaky ground, and gets into all things Mavs: Donnie Nelson, Bob Voulgaris, Luka's future, the roster around Luka. Tim brought a ton of inside info.

And ....

As for Dallas’s fresh vacancy, Tim MacMahon of ESPN tweets that star Doncic is a big fan of assistant coach Jamahl Mosley. “He’s got the things needed for a head coach,” Doncic noted after Mosley subbed in for Carlisle during a 99-86 win over the Knicks this spring. Mosley has been a Mavericks assistant since 2014. John Hollinger of The Athletic concurred (Twitter link) that Mosley would get significant consideration.

i honestly thought that if RC would have tension it would be between him and KP and not LUKA..
as much as i bashed KP this season i feel that some of it had to do with how RC used him this season.. coddling him and not pushing him to be the best he can be.(ie boston game and LAC series)..

Management and Rick are gone so many of you should be very pleased. I praised Rick over and over for being a top five coach, but he has made his decision, so now I hope the next coach will be more rookie friendly.

Rick will surely be missed and he should be honored I. The future for his accomplisments.

Rick deserved to have it end more on his terms than this.... but almost no head coach gets to leave gracefully.

He opted to leave by sending a message to ESPN.

A bit bizarre...

True dat.

There's no way Cuban will look good during this period. As long as Doncic re-signs, Cuban can weather bad public relations. We will all have something else to talk about when...

Doncic re-signs
A GM is announced
A head coach is announced

Until then, Cuban is a bit of a dog.
