Blazers get #7 (Okoro)
Pistons get: #16 (Bey), Anfernee Simons, #46

If that was available, would love if we could trade #18, #31 and Jalen Brunson to move up. Would love to take a top player like Okoro.

Whilst I don't see it, Simons is talked up as having a high ceiling as a first or second option scorer. I much prefer Brunson but Pistons would have no use for him, really.

Eating Wiggins? Ouch. He's negative value.

KP has more value than #2 in this crapshoot of a draft.

The writer is probably just doing Bob Myers a favor by creating buzz around their asset. They also came out a couple of days ago saying Deni Avdija is the next big thing and they were blown away. Not buying a thing coming out of the GSW camp right now.

I feel like we are targeting Saddiq Bey and think we need to get up to 12-15 to make it happen. Value-wise I feel like 18+31 gets you there, but it might take another piece

I am really wanting Bey on this team, his fit at SF would be a great improvement if you ask me.

Of course Aaron Nesmith is a great shooter as well at the 2 but Bey is that guy who really is special though he probably goes higher than 18 we would need to trade to move up if we want him.

Maybe I'm over-estimating but I feel like he could be Dorian Finney Smith number 2 on day 1 with significant upside on top of it... Great fit, super smart kid, obviously Mavs love Villanova products. No brainer if we can get there

Might be something to this. They brought him and Tyrese Haliburton in for workouts but neither are likely there outside the top 10 or 12 so it seems like the Mavs are pretty intent on moving in.

If they truly brought in Haliburton and Saddiq Bey, that would indicate that moving up by using their current draft picks is not exactly what they are doing. Packaging the #18 and #31 may move you up about three spots. Haliburton is never found in that range and Bey rarely is. Haliburton is almost always projected between picks 8-12. I've never seen him lower than that.

So if the Mavs plan on moving up to the 8-12 range in the lottery to get someone like Haliburton, they have something else on the table. There would have to be a bigger trade in play with possibly a starter or good rotation player going out.

Bey reminds me of Covington/Marion which the Mavs desperately need.

This if from the Bleacher Report

"In normal times, teams could work out as many prospects as they wanted. In 2020, they're limited to watching only 10 players up close, and executives must fly to designated cities for most of these workouts. Agents are suggesting that who teams choose to see before this draft may be more telling than in previous years, given how selective they have to be and the inconvenience that comes with traveling out of state and quarantining afterward. Teams aren't going to waste one of their 10 workouts and spend time traveling for a player they aren't realistically considering. If a team takes a trip to visit a player, it likely indicates legitimate interest as opposed to nothing-to-lose due diligence".

FYI, I'm not entirely sure the rumor mill about Haliburton and Bey is actually true. The source is DB.com which has been wrong before on several occasions.

Chase Hughes: John Calipari on ESPN2 says Tyrese Maxey will be the next Jamal Murray or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, i.e. a Kentucky guard overlooked in the draft who later proves better suited for the NBA level. Could have cited Herro and Booker as well.

I actually like maxey. My homie coached him at south Garland and had a lot of good things to say about him.

Maxey feels like a Carlisle kind of guy.

Having a wing is a priority, but I don't believe you have to have one in the draft. The Mavs have a lot holes in the rotation and there's no reason not take the appropriate player on the board during the draft.

I wish us the best of luck in two weeks. I don't expect a star talent in return for the two first round picks but one that's established would be nice.

I hope we make at least one pick in this draft... Having cost-controlled assets goes miles when building around superstars and it's reasonable to think that we will never pick this high in the draft again (at least in the next few years while owning our pick)

John Hollinger has Pokusevski going to the Mavs at 18.

https://theathletic.com/2188482/2020/11/10/2020-nba-mock-draft-whos-going-where-in-the-first-round/

The rumor is that Pokusevski has a promise from a team in the first round, and that’s why he bailed on the draft combine. Bigger picture, that may also be why he bailed on much of his 2019-20 season, depending on when the promise came.

At the 18th pick, we have a Dallas team with a noted proclivity for swinging for the fences on high-upside international prospects. Sometimes they get Dirk Nowitzki and sometimes they get Pavel Podkolzin, but they’ll keep swinging.

So why wouldn’t the Mavs take a swing here? Instead, there are widespread rumors that Dallas is shopping the pick in search of a high-level wing.

Color me dubious. They’re going to trade this pick for a wing when they’re trying to create max cap room in 2021? They’d either nuke the cap space or end up trading a first-round pick for a rental. This feels more like a smokescreen to dissuade the teams behind them from jumping up to 17 and taking their guy.

Hollinger makes a great point. The Mavs are just naturals to be aware of and interested in Pokusevski, yet its total radio silence in regards to the Mavs interest. We hear of all these other players they are looking at, but not one word about Pokusevski. I was already suspicious, but after reading that article I am thinking that is who the Mavs are targeting at 18.

Not sure that’s exactly who I would’ve wanted with our pick, if the rumors are correct. I really wanted them to swing for the fences trading into the lottery for Haliburton or Vassell
