Same.
The young man is going to be a solid addition to our team for several seasons.

Dont think anyone disputes that, its just an unnecessary luxury given our roster needs and ricks infatuation with barea

how many of you want to bet that during the season there will be games where we see Brunson will play at the 2 while RC plays Doncic at the 3 and DSJ at the 1. Then of course, you have Barnes at 4 and if we get Jordan at the 5 that is actually a solid team.

Second team is potentially very solid. Who is going to be on the team with McDermott, Yogi, Seth, Mejri and Noel all free agents?

Assuming that we keep the guys we want I would say that we end up with McDermott, Yogi, and Seth. Also assume we do trade Wes for Jordan.

That then makes the team look like this:

PG DSJ, JJB, Brunson, Yogi
SG Doncic, Seth
SF Barnes, DFS, McDermott
PF Powell, Kleber, Motley, (Spalding, Antekuonmpo)
C Jordan, Dirk
One spot remains and there is no way I can guess who that might be. If Jordan comes over via trade obviously Cuban will have a lot of cap space to spend still and how much gets used to pursue a big fish will determine how much is left over for the guys who are free agents.

That looks like a team that needs a bit more help on defense and we really need some 3 point shooters who can defend since our best shooters are so bad on defense.

The best 3 point shooters will be McDermott Seth and Dirk followed by Yogi, JJB, and if Brunson is able to carry over with what he has done in college then he should join in with the guys nicely. He may, in fact, be a decent enough defender that he is better out there than our other options. I cannot imagine him being a worse defender than JJB and even though Yogi is decent his size enables SG's to shoot over him. At 6'2 1/4 Brunson may be a Jason Terry starter kit.

Barnes is also an okay 3 point shooter at 35.7% but he needs to improve along with DSJ and Doncic. Those 3 cornerstones need to be shooting and developing their long ball game every day till they improve their shots by 4 or 5% points each. Rookies get a grace period to develop that part of their game but Barnes has been a pro for long enough and hopefully, Doncic comes in and lights the scoreboard up with all kinds of stats but that remains to be seen. Dennis needs to be as hot at the start of the season as he was at the end of the season when his 3PFG % increased. Developing consistency is the key with these kids.

At any rate, we need to rebound better as well and that is greatly improved by adding Jordan if that happens as is being speculated hard right now then we should start to defend teams a lot better by cutting down on second-chance shots.

Powell, Kleber, and Motley will play a majority of the minutes at PF assuming we do not add any more big names. They will stick Spalding and Antekuonmpo in G league to develop and maybe let them play towards the end of the season if we are out of the playoffs completely. If not there is no reason to play them unless they are just impressing us to the point we are forced to do so.

Our internal improvement by our young bigs will be critical to the teams overall improvement. I expect big improvements from Motley and Kleber.

Then at center, we will see Dirk take all the minutes left behind DeAndre and that includes the crunch time minutes were hack tactics aimed at Jordan would maybe be a problem. He has steadily improved his free throw shooting over the years and may continue to do so. Hopefully, that situation is not one that creates problems for Jordan that would make him want to leave when free agency options drop in his lap again in a year. Maybe we can afford to play Dirk at his natural position in crunch time so that both he and Jordan are on the court together.

The idea is to win the games early and not let leads get close in the 4th so that most of our starters are able to enjoy many games resting and rooting for the 2nd team to take care of business.

You know if Powell can improve his 3 point shooting by 2.5% he will be a better shooter from downtown than Barnes was last season. Amazing how much he has improved and all of it was due to his putting in the time to improve his game.

At any rate, the addition of Brunson will improve the team at the 1 and 2 with great shooting and smarter winning basketball decision making. That BBIQ thing will cover for him from day one and I expect him to become an important rotation player. His 2 point game is very impressive and he shot over 60% on 2's guys so this guy really is a Jason Terry starter kit. He does not miss those easy open shots. We are looking to sign our big free agent center and from what I hear it is a done deal so let's cross our fingers and pray management pulls off that trade so we can have $$$ to spend and add another big with our remaining cap space.

Uhhhh thats why we drafted doncic right to be that playmaker scorer. the ball should be in he or dsj hands, spending a high second on a guy who will never start is just a bad move especially when u factor in a guy like kyrie thomas could have been a great fit next to dsj at 2 a position of actual need

Doncic is going to play SF.

Oh SF will be tried I am sure. PF might even get some burn some of the time. RC is a mad scientist. Brunson could come into the league and tear it up as a guy who knows how to play the game in ways most rookies can't. His being more experienced means he will not take a long time to develop. I stand by what I said he is a Jason Terry starter kit but that being said, Doncic will get most of his minutes from the SG position. His PG skills will make him dangerous even if he plays the 5 but he will easily find a grove with a team as deep as what we have. SF is in good hands if we resign McDermott who like DFS is gifted enough to play either the 2 or 3 and with his 40% + 3 point shooting he is going to get a lot of time. Barnes at 35.7% from 3 needs to start hitting more of his 3's. Brunson was a 44% + point shooter and hit like 61% + of his 2 pointers so he may become our best shooter at either guard position right out of the gate. Yogi and JJB are fairly decent from 3 as well. Brunson is bigger and a better shooter though so he should win that battle if RC develops him properly.

Our best team of three point shooters to play from each position could end up being Dirk McDermott Powell Seth and Brunson.

I think speedy PG exels for the Mavs system. Yogi >>> Brunson on this regards. He's just an undersized pure shooter with some PG skills. The Mavs has moderate success with Yogi, Barea, Harris, Cook. What's in common for them? Are of them has quick first step and can attack the paint with ease. And all of them has respectably jumpers. I think it's likely for the Mavs to include Brunson in a DJ-for-Matthews deal. That's why they keep Yogi's cap hold but renounce both McDermott and Mejri's. I think they don't want McDermott for 10M and Mejri for more than min.

Great pick for the Mavs!!!

The guy has tremendous court vision and leadership skills and could easily become a starter for someone some day.
I'm still very concerned about DSJ's ability to stay healthy over the long haul and Brunson is great insurance.

Mavs took the BPA and quite possibly the best player in the 2nd round. Brunson's development period should be extremely short as he should become a contributer on day one.

Sorry to disappoint you, the Mavs plans to have Brunson spending a year for Legends. They want him here when Barea's out.

I still say that I will not be surprised if by the end of his rookie contract teams are contacting the Mavs wanting to trade for Brunson to be their starting PG.

Doncic is going to play SF.
Barnes is the starting SF. Doncic will fit in either at SG or PF depending on how the roster fills out.

Where did you get that? Everything coming directly from Dallas states Brunson will be on the regular roster and was not drafted to be on the Legends.
All signs indicate that he will be a cheap Yogi replacement.

A two time college winner from one of the best programs, a very hard worker and high character guy.

Seems like a great pick for the 2nd rd

He was straight up awful in SL. Meanwhile guys like Michell Robinson looked incredible. Really hope we didn't mess this up but so far all the skeptics have plenty of reason for their stance. Just a weird pick given how many little guards we already have/had on the team.

And so far I really struggle to see him as the clear cut BPA at #33 which was the public explanation of the pick...

Yep, again this was my stance when drafted, i preferred kyrie thomas, kbd, and robinson, all play positions of need. Adding a pg was unnecessary on top of that now probably bringing yogi back makes it even worse. So essentially in the last 13 months we will have used 2 picks and money to add pgs when we already have an excellent backup on contract. Meanwhile we have one sg, a hobbled overpaid one, a 40 yr old pf and a snake center. We are going to be bad for a while unless Dennis turns into an all star

I'd like to see how he does in a more structured environment with better players. Brunson's skills and talents don't appear to be conducive with SL play.
He's the type of guy that will get a good opportunity from Rick so I'll wait to pass judgement on him until a quarter of the way through the regular season because by then he will be exposed enough to Rick's system, the rest of the team and the NBA as a whole.

Drafting 101 rule of thumb is to ALWAYS pick the BPA in the 2nd round.
You can always trade them for players of need if they turn into something special.

They thought he was the BPA at 33 and for all we know he might very well be.
Way too soon to tell.

The Mavericks have officially signed Jalen Brunson. The 33rd pick was expected to get a multiyear deal worth similar to what the last picks of the first round received -- about $1.5 million for his rookie season.

A source says the Mavericks' deal for Jalen Brunson is four years. He'll have 3 years guaranteed, much like the late first-round picks.
