where do you see this reported? Seems like Dallas technically can't agree to do that considering they could have to convey any pick up until 2022 to Atlanta

This last year as a Mav fan has been nothing but fairy tail.

1. Somehow improve the draft position on the last game of the season (we looked 6th - 7th)
2. Somehow trade for Doncic
3. Steal Brunson in the 2nd round
4. DJ signs for one year (looks very important right now)
5. DSJ drops a triple double on the Knicks
6. Knicks trade Porgi here

I can't decide what is the least likely of those? Probably 5)

Makes no sense as the pick we owe to ATL has a 1-3 protection if it falls to 2021 afaik.

Mavs won this trade. THJ can be a Jason Terry type player off the bench and Burke is a solid piece as a rotation player. They still have some expiring contracts as well. I think JJ, Dirk, and Harris are all expiring contracts this year. Maxi is too, but he’s very likely going to be resigned out of that group. Even if Barnes opts in, he’s gone after next season.

Porzingas is a top twenty player when healthy and DSJ will put up huge numbers on an awful team.

Mavs definitely won this. THJ and Courney Lee's contracts should have been up by 2021. That means the plan to go after Giannis is still on. And with Kristaps and Luka here it makes the Mavs a more attractive destination.

Meanwhile from the Knicks POV it’s basically the opposite

Somehow worsened the pick late in the season
Wanted doncic and didn’t get him
Watch dsj fool people with a triple double
Trade Kp for a prayer

Everyone is making fun of Knicks but I don't think this is so one-sided at all.

First let's get the big one out of the way - yes, KP made it impossible for Knicks to get full value for him. He screwed them over big time and once this happens, you have to go into the save mode.

But considering Knicks were in tough spot, I think they did well. They have the cap space for two max players and having cap space for two max players is the new "having cap space for one max player" with the direction league is going to.

The concerns that Mavs should have are:

- Will KP sign? Yes, he seems to be very friendly with Luka and even Dirk, but that's not a guarantee. If he doesn't sign, how will this trade look? Ok, it would not look terrible, as Dallas didn't give THAT much, but still it wouldn't be a home run anymore. The fact that he apparently already told Mavs he would sign the QO can't be overlooked. Nobody leaves that much money on the table just for fun.

- KP's injury history. I am very concerned about all similar injuries, especially with big men. My default opinion is always that the player will not be the same anymore.

Can KP play center here? Or is he strictly a PF?

He'll be a better fit at the 5.

So what will the rotation look like? Will Kleber play backup C? Will Mehri get some playtime?

C: Dwight Powell (24) / Maxi Kleber (20) / Salah Mehri (4)
PF: Harrison Barnes (14) / Finney Smith (24) / Dirk (12)
SF: Tim Hardaway Jr (30) / Harrison Barnes (18)
SG: Courtney Lee (24) / Brunson (16) / Devin Harris (8)
PG: Doncic (34) / Burke (14)

Without KP on the lineup yet and with us losing 3 starters, do we tank the season? Going in the next few games without a starting center and two starting guards would cause problems i assume.

Powell, Barnes, Kleber, Luka, DFS should be the starters for now..... But it is a chance that Rick includes Brunson or THJ in Wes' place.

Nope, no way... There's still Harris, Brunson and Burke left. And Barea and Macon are still under contract. All are 6'3 or less. Nothing changes...

Lee is a better asset (actually in all ways) gained than Hardaway. But maybe Hardaway can be an impact 6th/7th man.

Spoiler:
should cut Burke before the deadline, fwiw

This is what I'm conflicted over.
