Jamal Crawford wants a trade if no contract

Times are slow right now and I see no real reason to pursue a trade for Jamal Crawford, but maybe some of you disagree. I doubt anything would interest Atlanta, but Jamal Crawford wants to be traded, if Atlanta doesn't extend his contract.

Jamal was very level headed with Atlanta this past season, he won the 6th man of the year, and he basically just wants his future secure with a contract extension.

He mad 163 3-pointers last season and made 38.2% of them.

Jamal Crawford wants trade if Hawks don’t extend his contract

Jamal Crawford has told the Hawks he wants to be traded before the 2010-11 season if the team doesn’t offer a contract extension to his liking, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Crawford, whose current contract expires after the season, asked the Hawks for an extension last month but has yet to receive an answer from the team. If Atlanta balks at offering Crawford what he considers an extension reflecting his market value then he would rather play elsewhere for the final season of his contract, according to the person familiar with the circumstances.

The person did not want to be identified because neither Crawford nor the Hawks have commented on his desire for an extension. Hawks GM Rick Sund, who is on vacation, declined comment tonight through a team spokesman.

Sund’s practice has been to not extend contracts for veteran players who aren’t on their rookie-scale contracts.

Dallas should be interested...

If we could do something around Terry/Stevenson/Barea for Crawford/BIbby or Williams we should jump all over that...

Maybe I was in the minority but I've wanted him since he played for the Knicks

The problem now is that he's 30 and I'm not sure if I'd want any part of a 3 or 4 year extension at 10 mil each
Ok let me rephrase I wouldn't want any part in paying 34 year old Crawford 10 mil+

I'd be all over a one year rent tho if Terry was in the deal

Well, i think Jamal would be a slight upgrade over Terry even though i view JET and Craw as very similar players. As HMFFL already said it's unlikely that the Hawks have any interest in our players we'd offer, e.g. Terry, and i don't like the thought of giving Craw a big extension now or next year either....

The only reason I want Crawford is because of his expiring contract...for Jason Terry.

Really, any expirings that can be depth would do. Murphy...Pryzbilla...even Mike Dunleavy.

However, if the trade has to come with an extension, I easily pass.

I'm not sure if we really NEED any more expirers

Actually I'm sorta wondering what we'll do with the $30ish mil of them we have now.

Are we going to try to roll them over to contracts that maybe expire next year or are we possibly just going to pull off a panic move if we can't get a Carmelo or Paul?

Iggy or Ellis aren't really worth taking back another 15 or 20 mil in bad contracts

Maybe, not pay $15 million in taxes next year? Maybe actually make money for just the 2nd time since Cuban bought the Mavs (the only other year being 2006-07).

If a Terry for Crawford trade were possible, then next year we would be at $48.7 million with a starting 5 of Haywood/Dirk/Marion/Beaubois/Kidd and a bench of Jones, Mahinmi, and Ajinca.

Crawford? How long can Mavs fans stand for his bad shoot selection...?

Terry MUST leave if Crawford is coming to Big D although I think ATL would NOT consider that trade.

I don't see Terry going anywhere....I would love to have Crawford but I don't think Cuban is gonna trade Terry.

This is the first time I've ever heard this from a fan. "Hey guys here's what we should do! Lets trade player A for an expiring so that we can make some money for our owner!"

Well you want ownership to make money. When Dirk retires in lets say 5 years, we will want the owner to have plenty of money to swing deals in order for the mavericks not to return to the dismal 90's. If Cuban taps out all of his resources set aside for basketball ventures on bad contracts for players not needed for the Mavs success, then we will all lose in the future as fans.

I wouldn't care if the team made money if the owner was Tom Hicks. He wouldn't put those resources back into a team. History shows Mark Cuban will spend money on the team. Making a profit now will help the Mavericks now and in the future.

I never disagreed with his statement and I agree with your assessment. Like I said, it's just the first time I've seen it from a fan. Donald Sterling is probably on the phone with JES as we speak.

I try to look at the game from all dimentions. Talent. Chemistry. Direction. Flexability. Building a farm. Etc.

I have seen too many crappy moves by our front office ever since trading to aquire Kieth Van Horn because of money problems and flexability. To strap ourselves with bad contracts just to have a high paryroll doesn't do anything but lock us into mediocracy. I am sure Cuban would take lots of bad contracts for Paul and Melo level players, but for Ellis, and extended Crawford, etc.? He better not! And I don't think he will anyways.
