Mavs vs Heat NBA Finals Threader
I will assume Miami will advance (not out of hate.... I was hoping for Chicago, but I can't picture Miami losing 3 straight).
This will be a very interesting series. Chandlerwood will be key. So will Marion. They will have to lay EVERYTHING on the floor that series. We would have the advantage in the frontcourt.
Barea could cause Miami some serious problems (offensively).
Obviously, LBJ and Wade worry me.
Our backcourt matchups worry me.
I can't trust Terry here.
Carlisle did not use Brewer.... I expect he will get minutes against against Miami.
I hope the refs call things FAIRLY. They don't have to be good---JUST FAIR.
Dirk is going to go off. I want Haslem on Dirk. He is going to flatten him.
what are your thoughts?

I hate Rick for playing Stevenson for so many minutes and I hate the fact that he put him on Durant. But I hate Wade too and want to see Stevenson prove to me that he is worth the minutes he is given.
Obviously no one will stop Lebron and Wade, but Marion and Stevenson is about as good of a duo that can be there. Add Kidd on Wade.
Terry / Barea on Chalmers / Bibby does not worry me at all.
Haslem is an x-factor.
I guess the biggest question is:
Who the hell do we have to guard Dampier and Magloire?

I agree that Dampier/Magloire match up is going to be so huge and a key in this series. Maybe we can sign Evan Eschmeyer off the street to contain those guys.

Yeah... Damp and Magloire really worry me. Damp could go off this series.
I really want to see that Dirk/Haslem matchup. I am sure Dirk is going school him. It will be poetic justice. I saw something different from Dirk this past series. He is playing with a lot of swagger. He is not expecting foul calls. He is just going up now looking to finish.
If the refs call this FAIRLY, Dallas should win.
I don't know about you, but I am not worried about Wade unless the refs bail him out. Game 5 of the 2006 Finals was HORRIBLE..... I am very 1970ish when it comes to foul calls, but that last play with Wade was disgusting. The refs handed Miami Game 5.
I always thought Wade was overrated, and yes, I will post this.
Wade's perimeter game is limited. He must be forced to his left. His success will depend on how well whistles are blown, just like 2006. Our defense needs to be able to rotate quickly enough.
LBJ will be LBJ, but our centers need to be on their toes and alert when LBJ drives. He can be stopped down there. We have the advantage down low.
Again, if the series is called fairly, I think Dallas can win in 6.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, I'd like to point out that the Heat DO have a guy by the name of Chris Bosh on their team.

Aw You blew it. I was hoping they'd forget about him so he'd sneak up on them.Iputsomepantson wrote:Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, I'd like to point out that the Heat DO have a guy by the name of Chris Bosh on their team.

Haslem. Not only against Dirk. but also against Peja (12min)
And Im aloso warry about JET vs Miller. Every shooter struggles against bigger defender.
MIA are struggling with Bibby and Mavs must take this advantage.
but Mavs strarting line up is worse. See lineup comparison
Againt OKC Mavs also struggled with Barea (-16/48min)
But its same to MIA this season. (-16/48min) It would be crucial against them.
Plus you can find an unbelieavablly poor result in Chalmers vs Barea from statscube.

Bosh should not get disrespected. Boozer/Gibson did so and got schooled.

A guy called Wiggy is not going to make that happen. Call him King Wiggins, A-Wolf or whatever.

Re: Dallas against Miami
I figure Dallas will play a lot of zone to try and make LBJ and Wade jump shooters and force others to beat us. James Jones is the only one that truely scared me, but Mike Miller found his stroke recently. Kidd/Stevenson will be key against Wade. They did a good job on Westbrook, but I think Wade could have a really big series against us. I think stopping him is key. Chandler will do a good job on Bosh and Dirk's job will simply be to rebound against Anthony/Magloire/Halsem duo. And Barea and Terry will have players to guard finally - Bibby, Chalmers, Miller & JJones.
I'm going with Dallas in 6.

This series scares me, after seeing Durant, Westbook and Harden carve up our D, just imagine what LeBron and Wade can do

Re: Dallas against Miami
At least we could say Dallas has the advantage in 3 out of the 5 positions. I think Dallas could beat them, but we all know that it'll be very very difficult. The only thing I could say is that Dallas matches up with them better than Chi does so hopefully that'll be a factor in the series.

well they didn't exactly carve up our defense, RW and KD took a lot of (Please Use More Appropriate Word) shots because of our defense, infact, if you take out game 1 (before we made adjustments) kd shot under 40% from the field and westbrook shot a nightmarish .360 for the series, so i actually think our defense stood up pretty good

Re: Dallas against Miami
Carlisle must give give Brewer some minutes.
MUST.
He will have to this time. The backcourt for Miami will pose serious problems. We need him to play.
We got away with it so far, but this is the most dynamic backcourt we will face, by far.
Kidd will step up, and he is getting extra rest. Hopefully Chicago can extend the series (and win??).
Does anyone know how well Brewer has guarded LBJ?

Re: Dallas against Miami
We must have one good perimeter defender on the floor AT ALL TIMES.
Floor spacing will be critical.
I expect Peja, Terry, and Barea all to have good series-- the matchups are favorable to them.
Come to think of it, Chandlerwood might have foul trouble due to the slashers Miami has. Carlisle must counter this. If I have not said it already, Carlisle must play Brewer. He will serve two purposes: to help guard LBJ and Wade, and to protect Chandlerwood from foul trouble.
Dirk is going to kick some serious behind.
If Halsem overplays him, Dirk now knows how to draw a foul. He won't get away with what he did in 2006.
I am very confident we can beat them.

Re: Dallas against Miami
I know this is not providing much insight on the topic of dallas v miami, however, I just wanted to post somewhere where Mavs fans would read this.
(Die hard Kings fan here btw) I just wanted to tell you ill be rooting my heart out for you guys this Finals series. From one franchise where championships are elusive to another, The best of luck. I believe the guys on the current squad will give it everything they got. With all the deserving vets on the squad I really feel like this is the best of shots, as any, at a ring.

I disagree. Dallas had a damn good series against Russell Westbrook and while Rose is a step above, its the same gameplan of making Rose take jumpers and keep him out of the lane. Besides that, Chicago doesn't have the scoring to keep up with Dallas. Marion would make it very difficult for Deng and Boozer struggles with players like Chandler who have length.
I would love love love to see Chicago in the finals. Don't see it happening, but I think Dallas has an easier path if Chicago is the last obstacle. Doesn't matter - it will be Miami.

Re: Dallas against Miami
What are your thoughts on these questions Mavs fans?
1) How will you keep LeBron/Wade on the perimiter? It seems like you couldn't keep Roy, Westbrook and Harden out of the paint.
2) Why do you think you have an advantage with Chandler when the Heat have handled the Celtics and Bulls frontcourts just fine? Or do you think the advantage is a major one?
3) Who stops Bosh? He has gotten the best of KG and Noah. I think both are better defenders than Chandler.
I think it will be a good series. I really can't see anyone stopping Dirk but I really can't see anyone on your team stopping any of their big 3 either. The Heat are weak at PG and C, and you don't have scoring options to exploit those weaknesses. If their centers just have to focus on rebounding and protecting the rim then I think they will be fine, based on what I've seen vs BOS and CHI. My guess is Miami in 6.

Just foul Lebron late in games, he always chokes at the line in crunch time. I'm a Cavs fan so I would know. Also, hold Bosh to under 15ppg; Wade and Lebron can't beat you alone so shut everyone else down and let them get their points.

Re: Dallas against Miami
If we face Miami, we are the decided underdogs. Miami has home court advantage, and that's bigger than it is other places.
We won't stop Lebron or Wade, and Bosh has been playing very well. He's on a roll, and I think it's because the Big 2 spoon fed him early in the playoffs to make sure and get his confidence up. It was very wise on somebody's part to do that.
The thing about advantages at 3 positions is wrong. Kidd vs. Bibby is a non-issue, unless Kidd decides to become more of a scorer. Bibby does not initiate the offense for Miami ... it's either Wade or James. Bibby just happens to be the guy that stands at the point guard spot, and he can make a shot.
So we're better at center and power forward. It's a bloodbath at small forward and shooting guard, and the point guard position comes down to who can score and defend the best. We know Kidd wins on defense, scoring could go either way.
Our bench is better, but having Haslem back and playing well is a rallying point for Miami. Miller can light you up, and in a championship series, you'd expect everybody to bring their best, so who knows who wins that matchup? Us probably, but you never know.
If we win this series it will be an upset. I'm hoping for a trophy, but not expecting it.
