I was thinking about what we could do to make us better and make us more appealing to DWill...I was thinking we could do a draft time trade

something like this:

Basically:

DAL In: Josh Smith
DAL Out: Odom, Roddy, Wright, Draft Picks (17th and next years? 1st)

ATL In: Tyreke Evans, Wright, DAL draft picks
ATL Out: Smith, Teague

SAC In: Odom, Teague, Roddy
SAC Out: Evans

Benefits:
DAL: get a legit allstar player who is young and athletic two way player...good running partner with DWill... can play move to SF and play PF in place of Dirk when need be

ATL: Trades unhappy player for young future PG they have been searching for... and a young PF who can step in for Smith

SAC: gets odom (supposedly interested in) for Evans (Isaiah Thomas proved a better overall PG but not as prolific as a scorer)...and two young guards with high potential

Seems like a stretch but trying to be creative...I think Josh smith is a realistic player we can trade for given the right scenario

Yeh not happening, Evans isn't being shipped out in this deal.

Odom could be somewhat like the Dust Chip however...Lets see what management tries to turn him into a key player in return or just waive him. Either way he's gone

Josh Smith is not a SF, he is a PF so there is no need for him in this team.

Atl does not like Jeff Teague? Then send Teague back with Smith. I love the guy.

He plays both positions, and clearly not a good post up player, so not a true PF. Maybe not the ideal SF for us, but he would be an upgrade who can play both positions and can pass very well.

Smith would work at SF for us if we move Marion in another deal for a center or SG.
Dirk needs good defenders (especially rim defenders) around him and Smith would be a decent fit in that regard.

I dont think ATL or Sac does that trade. ATL does want to get rid of Smith but i havent heard anything about Teague. As far as i know, he is in their plans for the future. Plus im not sure Tyreke is the right kind of PG for players like Johnson and Horford. I dont see Sac trading Tyreke for cap space and two bench guards. They already have guys like Thomas, Thorton, Jimmer, Salmons, and even Garcia that can all fill the guard spots. Even with draft picks, i dont see either team doing it

I really don't see any trades for any all star caliber players this off-season. We are talking about Donnie Nelson and Mark Cuban, but I just don't think they'll be able to make anything happen with what we have.

I'm just really hoping we don't trade away that draft pick. We need some serious youth on this team.

Considering Smith shoots like Haywood can the Mavs really afford to have two high priced horrible shooters starting and making 20 mil between them?

We prolly need to include a 4th team, which makes it very difficult, to ship Smith to in exchange for a SG, SF, or C. Maybe Hornets for Gordon? Done know if it all is feasible anyways..

Not huge on the Rivers bandwagon like other basketball fans. Ceiling seems limited to me.

Homer trade. Not happening. The only one benefiting are the Mavs.

Dallas acquires value and yet give up nothing of value.

The Kings wanted Jeff Teague in the past, the Hawks declined to trade him to them, and that's that. They'd pass on your offer.

The Hawks have no need for Tyreke Evans. It's not a good enough return for them to trade both Jeff Teague and Josh Smith.

By the way; you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to Atlanta. Jeff Teague is the starting point guard, has proven that he can be productive, and he currently is the point guard of the future. He is perfectly content with being a Hawk. Josh Smith is the one that isn't clear on what the future holds for him because Atlanta has openly shopping him on the market. They wanted a top 5 for Josh Smith before last years draft, no one showed interest, so nothing ever came from it.

We really need to keep our draft pick this year IMO...unless the deal nabs us a young stud. no older than 25. Seriously Id love to have no one over 30 besides Dirk.

I think the FO will have a tough decision to make in the off season if DWill doesn't sign...either get younger or get better.
I honestly think it will be impossible to do both if we don't land DWill.

I agree..It won't be fun to rebuild..were not used to that.. but signing a bunch of older veterans...that option is the worst.

I know but I think I'd rather sign a combination of guys like Nash, KG, Allen, Camby etc... to 2 year deals to play out Dirk's contract than sign guys like Dragic, JR, Beasley, etc... to big long-term deals that extend beyond Dirk's contract.
At least the 1st option would force the FO to rebuild from scratch in 2 years.

If we are going the youth route I'd rather try to part ways with Dirk as soon as possible.

Sure sucks how this is all reliant on D Will.

But if Lowry should become available, he was a triple double machine in the beginning of last year and was great til he got injured..if we have someone like him at the PG, i know its not a sexy super star name..but we can build some more around that with maybe an Eric Gordon and so on.

All this suspense...
