The Rondo and Parsons deals were complete disasters. Yeah and I just heard about Cuban vetoing Nelson Jr. about the Greek Freak. I'm just hoping Cuban stops trying to win now and looks to the draft.

we were not going to draft anyone during the Dirk years because the team was to good to get a good pick so the focus was on free agency to find pieces to fit around him.

Not quite wanting to face the reality that Dirk was aging and no longer the player he once was the ownership failed to take on talent they could have gotten because they felt it was now or never to get another championship and tried to snag Howard in free agency and to go after him they could not do it with the cap situation they had so they looked to cut expenses during the draft the year Greek Freak came out.

They chose to play free agency with Howard over taking a stab at drafting him. They also picked Sarge instead of Draymond Green but at least they found Crowder showing us they were not completely brain dead.

The Rondo trade was complete and total screw job by the celtics because Cuban had to make the deal look better than it was by overpaying Powell and investing more time in him. Hopefully we see Dirks fellow German start to get more play and we trade Powell this year. We need to sell the older vets for picks and start adding young talent.

The team is in full on tank mode now. Ayton, Doncic, Bamba, Porter or Bagley are the top 5 picks talked about and we look like we are not in the running for the playoffs for many seasons if we pick the wrong guy. This is the strongest draft in ages and tanking may be impossible to do in the future so this is the year we need to tank. I want them to acquire some 2nd round picks as well.

PG is set with both Yogi and DSJ there and so we need a SG but Seth has yet to demonstrate his skill set this year. Maybe he needs to take it easy and sign a one year deal to heal properly and come back next season ready to impress the team for a long term contract. Doncic puts our backcourt in the conversation of who has the best young backcourt, but would RC use him as a forward then becomes the question?

SF Barnes natural position is where he needs to play more. There is a need to see him improve his 3.

PF the big hole we need to fill or is it center with a guy who is Dirk like since Dirk is playing there now?

If you can find a 2 way player that defends and rebounds at PF and can score then going after an offensive center is cool. Maybe Ayton is the Dirk replacement from the center position. If we get a center to score then adding a defensive presence at the 4 is the balancing act we need to try so find one who can score some and defend other teams top scoring big.

Center Is the defensive statement that keeps the athletic freaks from dunking and laying it in at will. You win championships with defense and if your not defending then your needing to score more and that is hard when your PG of the future is shooting under 40% from 2 and 30% from 3. Lets see what he does next season. The problem with rooks is they sometime take time to get to the point were they are useful in the quest for a championship which remains the goal as always.

Assuming DSJ is just strugling with rookie problems that go away next season the adding of another top rated rook is not going to put us in contention because they too will take time to get there.

Another option is to add free agents at either SG PF or C and draft a top 5 pick. Porter would be nice to see playing next to a top free agent center and or Doncic who maybe moves up due to Porters injury. Going that direction in the draft is risky too. A team that lets a Center go maybe knows something about his health. To get healthy players is the goal and Porter is hurt.

Ayton may be the way to go given his vertical and developing scoring prowess to score from all places on the court. I think his learning curve may be 2 seasons of struggling simply because of the learning process and same goes for DSJ. If we go that route a defensive 2 like Wes is needed so in free agency we need to look at Smart. If no hope exists there then Gordon in ORL.

I hope we continue to see what we have in Max and try Motley some this season as well. They may fit next to an Ayton better than Powell and allow Cuban to let go of his boy. Do we keep Noel if nobody else claims him? I think you need to but he becomes a potential trade chip not a part of the core. Then you develop him to be that.

Does anyone know for sure how a trade would work if the Mavs are under the salary cap? For example (just brain storming) if the Mavs have enough cap space to take on Serge Ibaka without having to send anything back would they consider that if they also drafted Ayton? That could potentially be a pretty formidable front court. The other question is would the Raptors do that in order to dump his contract. It’s pretty bad, he has 2 years left after this season with cap hits of $21 mil and then $23 mil. Then convince Seth to resign for 1 more year to rebuild his stock.
