If we don't get a top 5 pick do we then trade our 1st round pick for DeAndre Jordan or DeMarcus Cousins?

Can we do a SnT or no?

Absolutely not. Outside of the top 7 maybe, but even then id be nervous.

Ayton, Doncic, Bagley, Bamba, JJJ, Porter, and Bridges all make more sense for this franchise given where we are at in the rebuilding phase than DMC or Deandre do.

Keep the pick and sign them anyway?

Will it be enough to convince them to sign here?

No, this is a 7-8-deep draft. I would take my chances with Trae Young or Jackson Jr. Yes, even with Young, RC likes the small lineups anyway! If they feel he has a chance to be something special, they will draft him. I would prefer Jackson though, I think he can be a stud. Also, I wouldn't touch Cousins at this point, the achilles for him could be devastating and career altering.

Maybe we win the tank off and get a top 5 pick.

No for Jordan. May consider Cousins depending on who's left in the draft. But would consider KP if he's made available by the Knicks first since his age fit the Mavs a little better.

I definitely don’t want Cousins post injury and not thrilled about Deandre either. I wouldn’t trade our pick for either.

They are both free agents. I wouldn't give up a first rounder for a sign and trade. The Mavs have enough cap space to sign either player outright. The Mavs would have leverage over either team and probably be able to give them a second in a sigh and trade.

True if Wes opts out. If not, only 17M is available. I doubt it's enough for Cousins. But I may not want DJ beyond this price tag. He's approaching his 30th very soon. And his shotblocking number is dropping ridiculously from 3 per game to only 1 per game. I like his rebounding, though. Surely, I'd consider Ayton or Bamba before any DJ talk. Actually, I think Barnes for Whiteside is pretty closed value-wise. If we don't draft a center, why not trading for one.

We should have more than $17 million.

Barnes 24.1
Matthews 18.6
Powell 9.6
Dirk 5.0
Smith 3.8
Barea 3.7
Finney-Smith 1.5
Kleber 1.4
Withey 1.8
Total 69.6
Cap hold first round pick around $4 million
3 more cap holds around $3 million
Total with cap holds $77.6
Projected cap = $101
Cap space = $23 million. $28 million w/o Dirk.

Can't you just renounce cap holds?

I agree 100%. I’d even include Mikal Bridges in that group of guys that make more sense for the Mavs than DMC or Deandre.
