Jalen Brunson discussion

Post#1 » by Pinkyring » Mon Jun 25, 2018 7:30 pm

Really seems like a wasted pick to me, we have far more needs. On top of that, fish reported today that devin harris is coming back, so why do we need to carry 4 points that dont defend, in addition to having doncic who will and should handle it quite a bit too.

BPA in an area of need Imo. Yogi sucks. Barea isn’t going to be around long. Seth is probably gone and not really a PG. If you can get a very good backup Pg with a 2nd rd pick, I think every team would take it. He’s a leader, a winner, can hit 3s and is very efficient. He’s a great backup for junior imo. Weather or not he pans out, we’ll see but I think he’s going to Ben a fabulous backup.

Judging by the post draft media meeting (just go the nba.com dallas HP), Donnie seems to know Brunson Senior very well. He did mention Brunson did not work out for any team from 20 - 32 (i.e. he was holding out).

Even though PG is not our immediate need, he was probably by far the BPA. We will see.

Harris wont be anything more than a player/coach at this point in his career... Im sure his role with Dallas will be to mentor Brunson and Smith more than anything.

Uh, because we need a good backup point guard. Mavs aren’t paying Yogi and Brunson fills that role on a rookie scale contract.

Uhhhh thats why we drafted doncic right to be that playmaker scorer. the ball should be in he or dsj hands, spending a high second on a guy who will never start is just a bad move especially when u factor in a guy like kyrie thomas could have been a great fit next to dsj at 2 a position of actual need

I disagree

Dončič is not a primary ball handler, at least not at this point and probably never will be, he can be a playmaking player but he is not going to be the one primary bringing the ball over the court and what not. Also Brunson - DSJ - Doncic would actually work well on the court together imo, not for long stretches but on occasions

Pedigree and team chemistry are also reasons Brunson was drafted, in addition to the fact the guy can flat out ball. Both he and Doncic are winners. The fact that both were the unquestioned leaders of championship teams is only going to help Dennis’ career. Remember, Brunson was National Player of the Year. Not Mikal Bridges, and not Divencenzo. They both deferred to Brunson. With the two rookies, Dirk, JJ, and Harris in the locker room they have a very solid culture. That’s one of the main reason I do not want them adding Cousins. He is the antithesis of that.

You try to draft the best player available. It looks reasonable to me to evaluate him as the best player available at that spot.

Wah wah wah. Brunson is flashy enough for you. Teams don’t just have 2 primary ball handlers. In today’s league, penetration and smart passing is premium. Doncic and Junior cant be the only primary ballhandlers. There will be times where they’re both on the bench and we will need a floor leader. To think we only need Doncic and junior to handle is just naive and shortsighted. You act as if there are sure fire starters sitting there in the 2nd round. Some may be, some fail. Brunson was the BPA and has a good chance to be a solid contributor

I believe the Mavs will draft a PG as I believe stopper are available if we trade up from 54 to 40-48. My prediction is correct. But the Mavs has done nothing on this regards. I blame them for not drafting a 3D guy who could potentially be starting 2. That's the problem.

No guarantee that Devin is brought back as a player. There’s a good chance he’s brought back as a coach. Even if he is as a player it’s likely in a very short contract. Brunson is here for the future as much as the present. JJ is in his last year and could even be traded this off season because of his expiring contract.

They traded Devin last year. JJ will always have a place with the team but if including him in a deal that will help them improve the team now I absolutely think they would include him in a deal.

JJ and Harris will be back. Yogi likely too. Brunson to the G-league for one year. Then out of the league I think.

Not likely that Yogi will be back. JJ likely to be traded. Devin and Jalen are likely the backup PG’s.

You think we’re competeing for a title in 2018? They’re building for the future.....not 2018. You’re vision is extremely shortsighted. Barea and Harris will be gone this year or next while Brunson will be the backup pg.
