6’8” Forward from Nebraska as the Mavs trade down to 45 with Detroit. Mavs also get two future second rounders in the trade.

This better be a dfs replacement, there is zero reason in the world to pay that guy this summer

He is more capable as a PF than our other SF's He has length with at least a 7'1" reach and I have seen that reported to be 7'3" has an 8'1" standing reach and is 6'8.5" so in shoes he should be closer to 6'9" and or 6'10" and with that reach he can play larger. He is said to be able to guard 1 through 5 and he steals blocks and rebounds so more of a defensive player who can develop his game with an ability to attack the rim

from nbadraft.net 45. Isaiah Roby | 6-8 | 215 | SF/PF | Nebraska | 21
Roby looks the part of a prototypical 3-and-D wing, thanks to an excellent wingspan and solid athleticism. Unfortunately, Roby didn't bring it 100% of the time at Nebraska. He tends to drift through possessions if his shots aren't falling. He isn't the most assertive or physical player, and some wonder whether confidence is an issue. He rarely played in the proper position at Nebraska, as his squad often asked him to play center, but if he can find the right coaching staff, he should find a path toward a much more suitable 3-D role.

We seem to be saving every cent for Kemba.

He looks like a cheap Al Farouq Aminu. Just in case we dont have money left to sign Chief. We're penny pinching now it seems. We need every cent for a max free agent.

Exactly what I root for. Roby is only a NBA-ready body away from Thybulle. Potentially, Roby is an upgrade over Shawn Marion. And the Mavs gets 2 future second rounders as well. Too good to be true. Roby is long enough and quick enough to guard multiple positions. If things work out, Luka finds a nice buddy to take on tougher matchup every night. Underrated pick. Hopefully, Roby can put on bulks and increase the footspeed at the same time.

Not a bad pick. He has offensive potential for sure. The defense is there, and I like his frame right now tbh. I don't want him bulking up too much to the point where he loses athleticism b/c of it.

Judging by the highlights not that bad of a pick, really. He knows some basketball.

He looks like a PF version of Justin Jackson.

We'll pretty much have Luka + KP + Three 3&D guys on the floor. That's pretty much it.

Im most worried about us overpaying for a center this offseason. Would have prefered Gafford and just roll with it over paying vuc, DJ or someone like that 25-30m. Would even prefer taco as starting center for a season and see how he develops over paying those guys. Know we will end up overpaying 2 players in this FA an be stuck with them

They most likely wont overpay for a center. Donnie is usually active signing people from the undrafted pool. But this year they are extra quiet. It tells you they need every penny they have right now to sign Kemba. After they sign a max FA, then they have the full MLE for a center.

Roby's built reminds me of a Stanley Johnson. Stocky frame with long arms and a wide wingspan.

I expect the Mavs to test Roby work ethics early on. Roby is a NBA ready body away from contributing. That means Roby has to work on the own way to build the body muscle and footspeed in Matrix mode. Run like a deer but strong as hell to guard all positions. Besides, getting consistent jumpers. Therefore, Roby should earn the trust and spots from coaching staff. Nothing would be given. The intangible and work ethics will determine whether or not Roby could make the rotation.

The only way he makes the active roster is if DFS and Kleber get signed by other teams and Broekhoff goes back to Australia. Will most likely spend time in the G League for now.

If they put Kemba, Luka, and Kristaps on the court, then the other two starters need to be defensive minded players that can hit open shots.

I believe that is the plan. Hence we drafted two elite defenders (in college, at least). If Kemba comes, i think that makes getting DFS back a priority.
