Yao has a career average of 9.2 rpg in 32.5min per game? Struggle?

If the big hits 3's a lot then they are going to be losing out on offensive rebounding opportunities hanging out on the 3 point line. As long as they rebound well on the defensive end of the court I am cool.

But taller players are supposed to be closer to the rim. Why do player like that have trouble to rebound? If I remember right, Yao's outrebounded by 6-7 Chuck Hayes very often.

Probably an issue of center of gravity.
There's a benefit to being tall, sure, but being able to establish good rebounding position is half the battle and I think super-tall guys can get pushed out of the way or fail to establish good rebounding position.

Yeah, mobility and vert issues too. Well that and health. The longer your limbs are, the easier they are to break I guess. Tougher to come back from breaks and other injuries too.
