Wouldn’t surprise me if Wright, DFS, and a future pick were offered for Beal or another all star by February

Not sure I believe that. Wizards could just use the extension as leverage now because he’s locked in and cant leave whatever team he goes to for 4 more years

I come in peace, as an outsider, so please don't kill me. But in the search for that '3rd guy', considering the asset scarcity that Dallas has, would the below be a worthy gamble or is waiting to try and sign a FA in 2020 w/ the 15-18M Dallas may have in cap be a better option?

Andrew Wiggins + 2021 FRP * + 2021 SRP for Tim Hardaway Jr + Courtney Lee + Justin Jackson

* Protected 1-8 and 15-30 2021 ; Protected 1-3 and 15-30 2022; Unprotected 2023 *

The cutting that Wiggins could provide, and his movement from franchise face to 3rd option, seem to be really nice fits to me. Its certainly a gamble, but one that could pay off quite well. The pick is protected to ensure at least a low tier lotto FRP is received with declining protection as the years go on.

PG - Luka Doncic (30 ) / Jaylen Brunson (16) / JJ Barea
SG - Delon Wright (26) / Seth Curry (22)
SF - Andrew Wiggins (28) / Dorian Finney Smith (20)
PF - Kristaps Porzingis (30) / Dwight Powell (18)
C - Maxi Kleber (26) / Boban Marjonivic (16) / Dwight Powell (10)

I’m not sure Wiggins and a pick is worth exiting the Giannis sweepstakes over. Hardaway looks good in preseason and might be a decent 8th man... Wiggins has shown less than nothing to warrant that contract or a trade

Sabonis may be available soon. Again we don't have anything to offer.

Not that any of their players are that intriguing and the mess the Mavs had this past summer but I really feel Miami is open for business.

Dragic may backup Winslow
James Johnson was sent home for being outta shape
Waiters is being Waiters
Olynyk is Lenoard.... Leonard is Oylnyk

Yeah I really like if we would get Justin Jackson and Jalen Brunson minutes. I’m not sure both are perfect long term solutions for us but both are young and on rookie deals. With the lack of assets we have (including limited picks to trade), it would be great to get them minutes and see:

(A) can they make it work alongside Luka/KP?
(B) can we get their trade value up?

I’m not sure Delon Wright (or anyone else) has that value or upside. Brunson and Jackson do (if they play well).

I'm in on Sabonis. Feels like a situation that's bound to end bad for Indy now that the word is out that they don't want to pay him. I struggle to see why they do it though. Solely on a statistical basis Sabonis + Turner actually played pretty well alongside each other last season:

Their two man lineups were +3.5 points per 100 possessions over 433 minutes.

https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/sabondo01/lineups/2019

The year before was desastrous though....so maybe that left an impression on their GM/front office. Sabonis is not an elite roll man (50th percentile) but I think he has upside in that regard and also as a shooter. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sabonis become a really good pick and pop option out to the three point line, too.

SF: Luka
PF: Porzingis
C: Sabonis

would be the most skilled NBA frontcourt by quite a margin Imo. Endless BBIQ, all three guys able to post, pass and drive some and then if Sabonis shoots more while maintaining a good percentage then you'd have elite shooting, too. It's a questionmark for sure though as same as the defensive fit. Not a no-brainer by any means unfortunately.

Still, I like the idea of picking up a talented & productive player like him. I think he still has plenty of untapped potential. Age-wise he's a great fit and also seems like a high character, high BBIQ guy.

Sabonis just got overpaid. If Indiana realizes their massive fault and they're ok to take back THjr and C.Lee I might entertain trade ideas with them. After this year he has that $77m/4 years deal which is a huge commitment for the future.

As a PF would you take T.Young or Sabonis as your starter? ($41m/3 years)
As a starting C would you sign JV or Sabonis? ($45m/3 years)

Sabonis didnt even prove that he's an NBA starter for a team competing for playoffs. He's slow to defend wings at PF and he clogs the paint. He cannot defend rim so he's not good for C position.
Personally I would be ok to take his contract($20m/per year) for THJr if it was ending in 2021.

Brogdon+Sabonis getting what $40m per year? I wouldnt surprise Oladipo-Turner leaving or asking trade in a year or two. For Luka-KP duo, I hope Mavs dont give out a huge 4 year deal anytime soon. If it doesnt work you lock all of your options to find pieces around your core.

I’d go after Bjelica. B/w Bagley Giles Dedmon and Barnes sometimes going up a position, he’s probably the odd man out.

48% FG 40% 3PT 76% FT 57% EFG 59% TS

DAL could do worse than having him be the 4th big man

They have the TPE to absorb him. What compensation would they need to give? A 2nd? 2 2nds?

Him and Kleber off the bench will really add some punch to the 2nd unit.

Thad Young should be the target if he finds minutes squeezed in Chicago. Perfect fit with Porzingis.

Realistic Bigs to target depending on how the season goes:
Cody Zeller
Olynyk
Favors
Adams
Randle?!
Henson

Randle would fit in very well, however he isn’t feasible and he could have been signed in the summer. Olynyk would be great, let’s see how Miami’s season develops.

Wings:
Osman
Gallinari
Bogdanovic
Juancho

Juancho and Osman could probably be had for a reasonable price And would be a clear upgrade.

Young guys:
Bamba
Musa + Kurucs
Bitadze
Lonnie Walker

Really high on all of them except Bamba. ALL of them are facing basically no playing time. Would need to give up on the 20 and/or 22 pick though.

Who would you like to see?

PS: My first post here in the Mavs forum. Been following Luka since 2016, really like Porzingis as well. Hope you can build a great team around them, current roster is lacking a couple of things (bigs, wings). Would be a pity to waste their first prime season.

Im starting to think Bogdanovic is a real option with what's being reported out of Sacramento.

I think our defense would be pretty bad if we went after and got him

100% agree but he would be a legit 3rx option and what we send back may not be any worse on D.

Unfortunately, the Mavs are prohibited from using their '20 or '22 picks in a midseason trade. The Mavs don't have much to offer in a trade scenario.

The only realistic trades they can do are of the salary dump variety. They can trade for role players under bad contracts. They can offer Courtney Lee's expiring contract for another player's multi-year contract. Packaged with Broekhoff's salary, that can be worth up to $19.2M. They can also use the TPE to take a $11.8M contract off another team's hands.

Wouldn’t surprise me to hear the Mavs call them, but he’s going to want 20 million dollars this summer. Are you really comfortable with that number?

16 to 18 yes

20 is a maybe leaning towards yes if it's a shorter deal as he's older then most think.

I hope Bogdanovic joins Dallas next summer.

Return to Dallas Mavericks
