Teams Starting To Prepare For Possibility Of 76ers Trading Joel Embiid

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Feb 10, 2020 9:23 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently fifth in the Eastern Conference as they have been one of the NBA's more disappointing teams with questions continue to surround the viability of Brett Brown as head coach and whether Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons can fit alongside each other.
"I've got lead executives talking to me as we go through this, hours and hours and hours that I spend on the phone in and around the deadline, even after the deadline," said Brian Windhorst on his podcast. "Some of the worst for me is the three days of debriefing calls that these guys... I'm very appreciative, I mean I do it. I was on the phone until almost midnight Pacific time after the deadline talking to people.

"But anyways, one of the conversations people are starting to have in the league is 'will they move Embiid? What's the price? Where would he go?'

"I'm not going to get into that, but my point is people are talking about that. I don't think they would do that without making an adjustment to the head coach. It's such a radical thing, but the fact that we're in mid-February and the people who work in the league, who have to prepare in advance, are mulling over Joel Embiid potentially coming to market, whether that's true or not... I mean, Josh Harris can come on this podcast and deny it if he wants, but the fact people are talking about it, is not good. It's a symptom of where they are."

If he becomes available we must pursue him.

I guess you would have to determine if you are better off with KP or Embiid next to Luka. I generally think Embiid would be better. KP is better at the three and would space the floor better. Embiid is much stronger, a better rebounder, and a better finisher. Embiid has flourished next to Simmons so I think he could flourish with Luka controlling the game. Both seem miss about 25% of the games each year. Embiid is closer to a true center while KP is more of a very tall forward.

I would trade Embiid for KP head up, but I wouldn't add anything to the deal.

I think if they don’t have a lot of playoff success, Dallas absolutely has to make the call and make everything available (aside from Luka/KP). It would likely mean taking back Horford or Tobias as well, but it’s still 100% worth having Embiid at that price

I doubt Philly will look to do a rebuild so moving Horford and Tobias possibly wont be what they intend to accomplish. Anyways, here are the salary numbers for anybody that's curious.

Al Horford
2020-21: $27,500,000
2021-22: $27,000,000
2022-23: $26,500,000 {Non-Guaranteed}

Tobias Harris (Damn, he's getting paid)
2020-21: $34,358,850
2021-22: $35,995,950
2022-23: $37,633,050
2023-24: $39,270,150

Joel Embiid
2020-21: $29,290,000
2021-22: $31,310,000
2022-23: $33,616,770

Exactly why I think Philly will insist on him being put in. It would give them space to pursue Giannis next summer if what they took back was along the lines of Hardaway, Brunson, Wright, Kleber, our 1st, GSW pick, and 2025 first

You don't want Embiid and KP on the same team. Both bigs cant stay healthy enough to play back to back games. You'll be tied into two max contracts that you cant fully maximize.

I'd want Ben Simmons instead. For the record.

Honestly, I will be willing to trade KP straight up with Embiid, but I wont agree to take on Harris and Horford's huge contract

No way Embiid is attainable without giving up KP. Actually KP is exactly the player the Sixers would want and need alongeside Simmons. Both being injury prone also helps. If we throw in something minor, this could easily be a realistic trade. Still I want to see KP and Luka at least for another year together developing chemistry

KP for Embiid, and if the Sixers want the Mavs to take back Harris, then I guess Donnie has to send them THJ. Brunson would have to be included as well.

That would mean a lineup that looks like this.
Luka-Curry-DFS-Tobias-Embiid

Not bad, but it doesn't do a whole lot for me either. Would need another piece for sure.

As a dual Mavs/Sixers fan

That would actually be a nice trade for the Sixers if they can get some picks and maybe Seth.

But I dont think Joel would fit Carlisle system at all

He doesnt roll hard and he loves posting up or facing up to take mid range shots.

Never underestimate their stupidity. You're talking to a GM who gave max contracts to Tobias Harris and Al Horford. Just saying.
