Let's say the price is Courtney Lee (sign him to a 1 year deal and then trade him) + the 2020 first round pick

I'd strongly consider it tbh. Would depend who is there on the board at that time, but honestly, I'd probably do it if that was all they wanted for him.

Kings would then give Bogdanovic a new deal and then roll with a lineup of Fox, Hield, Bogdanovic, Bagley, Bjelica.

Mavs could roll with Luka, THJ, DFS, Barnes, KP; or they could bring Barnes off the bench and start either Curry, Kleber, or Powell like Carlisle has done throughout the year.

Also, trading for him, depending on the timing, wouldn't effect the $10M MLE the Mavs have available for spending this offseason.

Not a chance. Wouldnt do it if they gave us their 2020 1st. If he was on vet min I would consider him. If we trade with SAC why not go for someone that we havent tried(and kinda failed)? They got a few that I would be more intrested in

like whom, and do you think that person would be what the Mavs need? I think Barnes would fit what this team needs right now tbh.

Like in what way? I would as I say consider him for the bench if he were at a decent pay. But he sits on a around 100m contract, so way too expensive for the bench. Were u thinking he was gonna be the starting 4 or?

We've already seen that Barnes is not good at the 4. And honestly DFS plays at 3 better than 4. Is Barnes better than DFS? Yes but not 5x better which is their pay difference. Barnes isn't even 2x better.

Yes. Should've never traded for Jackson.

We couldn’t have signed Curry if we had Barnes’ $24 million on the payroll.

Yeah. Essentially Barnes was traded for Justin Jackson, Seth Curry + a shot at Kemba Walker. Would have pulled the trigger on that one too.

Danny Ainge always has Donnie's number though.

Would the Mavs have been a tax-paying team? I don't think so, which means they still could have gotten Curry.

Turned out to be Justin Jackson, Delon Wright, and Willie Cauley-Stein.

I thought Barnes was fine at the 4 tbh. Maybe he wasn't above-average or anything like that, but he could post-up a little and spread the floor a little too. But Barnes could play the 3 with DFS at the 4, or even Kleber or Powell at the 4.

And with the way the Mavs play, the difference between the 3 and the 4 isn't that much. Sure, Kleber and Powell can rim-roll, but when DFS plays the 4, it's about him getting offensive rebounds, put-backs, and stretching the floor. Barnes can do that too.

Yeah, the bench would be a nice spot for him. He could rotate into the starting lineup at times too.

Agreed, but Barnes' salary declines year over year according to Spotrac. And even so, it's not my money that's being spent. It also wouldn't prevent the Mavs from using the $10 million MLE this summer either.

My point was about defense. Neither Barnes nor THJ are particularly good at guarding stronger athletic 4s.

Barnes doesn't appeal to me and it's mainly due to his current contract.

2019-20: $24,147,727
2020-21: $22,215,909
2021-22: $20,284,091
2022-23: $18,352,273

If we want to win a title we can't have that amount of money on our bench that's to one player. I want another championship but going forward I hope management is selective with trades & during free agency so we don't handicap ourselves with a contract like Barnes.

Sure it's not your money it not mine either but if the team ties up that much money to Barnes especially when they overpaid Powell and Wright..it limits what they can do to be a true contender because Barnes is not the answer for that.
