Cleveland Cavaliers look to trade or waive Kevin Porter Jr.

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Mon Jan 18, 2021 6:47 pm

This deserves it's own topic because he's a talent that's becoming available. I prefer to offer Cleveland something than have him be waived.

His focus and "troubled way" has always been a red flag, but he's young, and very talented. He probably just wants his minutes and to play ball.

Possible reclamation project. Knucklehead. Dallas has had its fair share of these back in the day. Stackhouse, Stevenson, Monta Ellis, OJ Mayo. Some get fixed and stay productive. Depends on motivation.

If Dallas still had Avery Johnson, who was a coach players could talk to, I'd be inclined to try it out. But Carlisle has a shorter leash for these things. Luka said it best, "If we talk, we talk".

Low risk with KPJ.
Dennis Smith Jr was the most recent "knucklehead".

He hasn't been with the team lately and showed up to find out the team had given his locker to another player. Right or wrong, I doubt most would be pleased to find out someone has taken over their locker.

This is true. But for a 20 year old to flip his Mercedes and have marijuana and a loaded gun inside, quite alarming. Maybe our vets could talk some sense into him.

KPJ reminds me of Josh Howard for some reason. Same skill set. Same height. Same moves.

I’d love to get KPJ but moron Rick Carlisle would probably give him DNP-CDs in order to play Wes Iwundu and Dwight Powell more

He was the number 30 pick. Had a decent rookie season, but nothing spectacular. Nothing I see that overrides the knucklehead factor. Cleveland wouldn't be dumping him if he was a top prospect.

As for KPJ, I'd take a punt. He's talented. If he causes trouble, cut him immediately.

We need some talent and scoring punch on the bench to get through this crazy year.

Yeah ok buddy. He hasn’t done anything noteworthy in 10 years. He’s the new age Larry Brown, but let’s keep pretending he’s a brilliant mind instead of the guy putting Powell at starting C or letting Porzingis shoot 35 footers every game

Christ. Same **** every time the Mavs go through a rougher patch. Bunch of fans clamour for Carlisle to be fired.

He literally just coached the most efficient offense in league history last year.

He's consistently outperformed talent levels on the team.

He's made rotation level players out of nobodies.

We did this last year, or perhaps the year before, and a poll on the general board had him as a top 5 coach in the league.

Sources said Porter, whose locker was moved to the wall where the younger, end-of-bench players reside, began yelling and at one point threw food.

Sources said general manager Koby Altman came into the locker room and confronted Porter, and the player remained combative with his boss. The Cavs spent the weekend trying to trade him.

Coach J.B. Bickerstaff heard the commotion in the locker room from his office and came in, shocked and disgusted by what he heard.

So what? Jason Garrett coached a great offense too and still got rightfully fired. Carlisle hasn’t gotten this team out of the first round in 10 years and continuously alienates more talented players to play “his guys” or call “his plays”. He’s a joke and a has been

If he consider it slavery the nba should void his contract and never let him back in the league. He can work in some grocery store and learn what real slavery is

I think the Mavs should target a frontcourt piece ahead of Powell and Boban in rotation.

Why is he top 5 currently? What metric are you using?

Houston is acquiring KPJ for a 2nd round pick. Really Donnie? You couldn't offer a 2nd round pick?

Jonathan Feigen: The Rockets will acquire Kevin Porter Jr. from the Cleveland Cavaliers, a source said. @wojespn first. Rockets sending a protected second round pick. Will waive Chris Clemons to open the roster spot.
