Because I can't help to think that this is a HUGE what if. Haliburton would be perfect next to Luka and will probably develop to be that 2nd-3rd guy the team needed so bad... and on a rookie contract.

How close were the Mavs and should they have upped the offer? I mean the Suns drafted a guy that was supposed to go 15th+, they must not have been that attached to the 10th pick.

I imagine the offer was just 18 and 31, since they don’t have any other assets to offer and didn’t want to take back any salary. For sure would’ve been nice to have Haliburton instead of Green and Terry though, I agree

Nobody likes to take in trash for a top 10 pick. 18 and 31 wouldn't cut it.

Donnie just got lucky with Luka. Otherwise this team would be composed of DSJ + Wendell Carter Jr. for the future.

It’s a shame he’s so bad at drafting and signing free agents, because his trades are almost always a win. Both Tyson trades, the Luka trade, and the Butler trades were all great deals for Dallas... But it’s so jaded because our biggest free agent signings in the Nellie era are Chandler Parsons and Harrison Barnes. Not pretty

Don Nelson planted the seeds for Dallas. He was the visionary. The son who was to reap the rewards his father planted, used the connections his dad has, nwver did live up to the expectations. Don Nelson was key in choosing Dirk. He saw the game could change. Donnie tries to be that too hard.

Top 10 isn't quite 10 or 11. Even more considering the Suns took a player who wasn't considered top 15 by some mock drafts.

Wouldn't 18-31 + Brunson have been enough considering the draft was deep and no one knew who would be good?

If the Mavs only offered 18-31 for 11th, they just weren't serious about making the trade happen. I feel like they just didn't bother because of the Giannis mirage.
