didnt know that his contract in TOR is about to end.. some mavs fans have called for a different GM or team pres but the hard part is finding a suitable replacement. imo great GMs are harder to find than HCs
Masai definitely is among the top in the field.

Absolutely he should, but I doubt Cuban would want strong personality like Ujiri next to him in Dallas, Cuban is by far the most involved owner in his team.

Despite how logical it is and how much I’d love for it to happen, I never assume Cuban will actually do what’s right for the team by firing Carlisle and/or Nelson.

Ujiri would be perfect and could easily build a championship roster around Luka... but Mark Cuban just wants to keep “his guys” around now that he’s already gotten a ring and doesn’t care as much anymore. I honestly believe that even if we went the rest of the year without winning another game, Cuban would still keep them around

Here's the scenario. Masai signs with Dallas, sends Cuban an offseason proposal to build a team around Luka and KP. Cuban vetoes that, signs Dwight Powell to 3 years $17M per.

I'd imagine Masai would quit on his first day here. Not to mention all the sexual harrasment shenanigans from the front office.

really praying for this one.. i have limited knowledge about potential donnie replacements but its hard to top what Ujiri has done.. his resume imo is among the best. i know its along shot though. so the question is if not uriji,, who??

Masai is the big free agent prize this Summer.

I don't think it happens though. Cuban is the GM, even if he has someone else hold the title. He is making the decisions with recommendations from his staff. I doubt Masai would like that and he certainly wouldn't put up with gambling guy overruling him.

That's so dismissive. Why would anyone just rubber stamp the story of someone with an axe to grind?

For all I know, Voulgaris is a horse's ass, and Luka hates him, and he needs to go. And by the way, there's been rumors that Haralabos & Luka have butted heads around the NBA, so if that's the case, then adios Voulgaris.

But, I'm not going to just co-sign an article of conjecture by the Athletic and say "F the poker guy". Haralabos is very intelligent & he's one of the foremost voices in NBA analytics. If the Mavs do let him go, he won't be out of work long, and whatever team picks him up. You mark my words that team will be a contender in 5 years.

Gambling guy can be the most charming, intelligent, foremost voices in NBA analytics. And the athletic article can be a complete distorted hit job. A top GM is not coming into a job with someone else giving advice to the owner. Gambling guy needs to be GM, work for the GM or be gone.

JD totally agree. Voulgaris has to work within the confines of an organization and play his role; otherwise it doesn't work at all.

I just think it's crazy how everyone is taking the Athletic piece at face value when it's very clearly a hit piece authored by Donnie Nelson who clearly hates Voulgaris and is very biased towards him.

You cant spoil Luka too much IMO. You can't build a team with a babysitter as a GM. Pat Riley was able to tell Lebron to work within a system or he's out. A strong character GM can handle big chaaracter stars.

Masai Ujiri is obviously the the top guy on the market. He and Jamahl Mosley would be ideal in opinion.

He pay fine this year for talking too much and James is in LA.

You missed the point. Riley OWNS South Beach.

If you get a wimp as a GM that babysits his stars, you become Cleveland that Lebron and Rich Paul can ask you whoever to sign. Tristan Thompson, KCP, Montrez Harrell. All those names were forced by Rich Paul down their throats. Miami didnt sign a single overpaid Rich Paul client. Lebron realized he couldn't run South Beach so he left. The GM has to put team first before babysitting your star to their every whim. Jerry Krause wasn't friends with MJ and Pippen, and we know how that worked out.

No chance he comes. Move along...

While I understand this thinking, this has always struck me as bit too simple for this particular situation. I'm sure Cuban would have no problem signing Ujiri if he could. Cuban is in the process of damage control. Ujiri automatically puts credibility back into the franchise - and Cuban generally has been conscious of the Mavericks franchise and how it's perceived.

I'm sure Mark Cuban would prefer a winner. It fixes his own black eye as well as help the organization as a whole.

Why would Masai leave Toronto? Cuban is a mess. And Bob is still there.

Besides I doubt Cuban will even try to talk to him. His ego will not allow it.
