The Spurs are falling off the cliff and there's a real possibility of Pelicans getting into the play in.
The play in will have the young Grizzlies, Curry and the surging Pelicans, Mavs must avoid it.

Mavs are 2 games + TB ahead of LAL and Blazers 1 game + TB ahead of LAL, I don't see the Lakers coming out of this when have PHX without LeBron and Schroder.
It's now between the Blazers and Mavs, Mavs have 1 game ahead, Blazers have the TB, it's VERY close, Mavs must take care of business to avoid the Clippers who will most likely finish 3rd.

As of today the play in looks like it will be Lakers/Warriors/Grizzlies. Mavs have a 2 game lead on the Lakers and have a fairly easy schedule the rest of the way. Mavs should be able to avoid the play in.

Yeah, but looks like it'll be Clippers 3rd and Nuggets 4th, Blazers are breathing down Mavs necks, so they still need to win 4 of the last 5 to make sure.

What's even more impressive is the fact that Mavs are 8th best team right now in the standings even though they had a brutal January due to COVID plus other injuries. If they were as healthy like PHX and also had some luck, this team could have easily been top4 or better in the league right now.

I think moving forward having a healthy roster should be a priority for Donnie. Having your 2nd guy at max money playing only a % of the season, is not going to do this team any favors. Because it means that others will have to work extra hard for the same result.

They are breathing down the Mavs necks however they finish the season against the Jazz, Suns, and Nuggets. That a tough final 3 games.

I think if the Mavs had not had all those guys out with Covid early in the season they would have close to 50 wins right now and be a top 2-3 seed.

Portland is in control now, they win all games, and they are 5th, if the Blazers don't win all games, 99% Mavs are 5th, even if they go 2-1, because Lakers will catch up, and Mavs own the 3-way tie breaker.
Magic number to secure the 6th is 2.
To complicate things further, If PHX loses to POR, they become 1 game away from Clippers, who own the tie breaker with them, and risk losing 2nd spot but I think the Clippers would rather face the Mavs than the 7th (LAL/surging GSW), so they may lose intentionally.

There are alot of moving pieces right now.

Utah should want to wrap up the #1 seed tonight which would put Portland in a tie with the Lakers. (Utah plays Sacramento Sunday as well who is still actually in the playoff hunt I believe and not resting guys giving the Jazz another reason to win tonight). This happens Phoenix should go all in tomorrow vs Portland to avoid LA rd 1.

Dallas is still in a really good spot if they take it 1 game at a time.

Their last 3 games are extremely tough. Dallas only needs them to lose 1 while the Mavs win out.

We need a Portland L... Phoenix is a bluff (like i said weeks ago) and Denver is without Murray...very difficult, Dame is in PO mode yet.

It all comes down whom Mavs want in 1'st round... either it's Nuggets or it's Clippers.

Sounds like DEN will rest both MPJ and Joker for the POR game and since the Blazers own the tiebreaker over you, hope you enjoy playing LAC in the 1st rd.

Mavs are 5'th seed if they win last 2 games vs Raptors and Timberwolves... All credit to Suns.

Mavs need to win just 1 game to be 5th, if Lakers wins twice.

No, Lakers have almost no chance at getting 5'th seed. If Mavs win only 1 of remaining 2 and Blazers win their last only game Blazers will be 5'th seed cause they have tiebreaker over Mavs. They beat Mavs 2-1 this season.
