Luka is a mess defensively so is hardaway and Brunson and lauri is better than the last two, fact is we need talent over everything else u can add defensive role players anytime

Ideally, you add guys that play both ways.

THJ made some big defensive plays for the Mavs in the playoffs. I hope he can do that for an entire season now, but I'm not holding my breath.

Luka and KP have to improve their defense too. Luka's not good as an on-ball defender and is below average as an off-ball defender. Well, he might be average, but honestly, if you're not above average or good, then it's not really worth analyzing nowadays, because it seems like it's all the same.

Actually Markanen is worse than Luka and Brunson and Luka can be a good defender, for majority of the time he just doesnt have the energy to do it. Lauri is a 7f. guy who cannot defend centers, powerforwards, permiter etc

It's impossible to be a worse defender than Brunson. Neither James Harden.

I don't understand the hate against Markaneen in this board, maybe because he is not American.
He is young, talented and probably a 17+8 guy in this squad, the only issue is the health.
we played last 3 years with a 7+5 spot up shooters guy in that position with no skills, and i like Maxi. Great teammate.
The upgrade is awesome, and if he doesn't fit he has trade value for sure.
A win-win situation for a team who can't sign anyone than role players.

I don't want to think about next year FA because we will not sign anyone for sure like last 10years, we have to make trades trades and trades and Markaneen is a great chance for us.

My opinion is clear and i don't want to be talkative. I stop myself

Mavs should let Lauri opt-in, then trade the TPE and a first round pick for him, so long as he signs an extension with the team.

If anyone is interested, you may skip Lauri Markannen's performance the past couple of years and just watch his FIBA or Eurobasket play instead. That would be a better gauge of his potential play. Chicago was a bad place to be in the past couple of years, so the gameplay can also be reflective of that. Not 100%, but you get the point.

If it only takes Kleber straight up, you'd have to do the deal. I believe Kleber has reached his peak, and even at Lauri's rock bottom value, you can get equal overall production in terms that Lauri produces more offense and Kleber produces more defense at the position.

There's a full game of Finland vs Slovenia on Youtube. It was some years ago but it was a fun game and it indeed had Luka and Lauri on the opposite sides.

Seeing the price they paid for Lauri and what the Bulls got back in return, I'm kinda glad the Mavs didn't pull the trigger. I was hoping the Mavs could get him for the TPE and 2nd round picks or a prospect, but even then, Lauri wouldn't have moved the needle too much. He would have come off the bench and played the Bobby Portis role for this team. That's an important role, but it's not worth giving up a first round pick for. A lot of 6MOY only cost 2nd round picks or something like that. Clarkson was a 2nd round pick himself and the Jazz got him for a bust and two 2nds. Ingles was undrafted, Brunson was a 2nd round pick, and THJ was a throw-in to the KP trade. Lou Williams himself was a 2nd round pick, and DRose was signed as a FA. Not too often will you see a team give up a first round pick for a 6th man, so I'm glad that Mavs didn't.

Also, the Mavs will probably need those first round picks, prospects, cash, and swaps so they can take a swing at bigger players on the trade market. I'm sure they want to go after Beal now that the Wizards traded away Westbrook.
