Dick Motta (1980-1987, 1994-1996). The original coach. Built a winning franchise.
329-409. 446 win percentage. 11-17 in post-season. 4 post-season appearances. Went to conference semi-finals twice.

John MacLeod (1987-1989). Road Motta's coattails.
96-79. 549 win percentage. 10-7 in playoffs. One post-season appearances. Went to conference finals once.

Don Nelson (1997-2005). Brought Dirk to Dallas. Rebuild a winning franchise.
339-251. 575 win percentage. 19-24 in post-season. 4 post-season appearances. Went to conference finals once and conference semi-finals twice.

Avery Johnson (2005-2008). Brought defensive toughness. Took team to the finals for the first time.
194-70. 735 win percentage. 23-24 post-season. 4 post-season appearances. Went to finals once and conference semi-finals once.

Rick Carlisle (2008-2021). Brought the team's only championship.
513-448. 534 win percentage. 30-34 in post-season. 8 post-season appearances. Won finals once. Lost conference semi-finals once.

Rick. He got us the chip and he's widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the league for the decade or so.

That Avery RS winning record looking back is amazing though.

I voted Rick Carlisle.
He contributed to us winning a championship because I never felt like we had a true championship caliber team(s) with any of the Coaches we had. Tyson Chandler was the piece that myself and others on this board wanted at the time as the missing piece that was attainable. Winning was always a team effort once Tyson was added and thankfully Rick lead us to the title.

Rick, and it’s really not close. Nellie was the most fun coach, but Rick was the smartest.

Johnson's regular reason record was too good. He wore the players down playing too hard in the regular season.
