Team Strategy: Building Through Trades, The MLE, Exceptions, Draft, Etc.?

Now that Luka has signed his extension, is the team strategy now to build through trades, use the MLE and other exceptions, hit on draft picks / develop young talent, and find bargains in free agency for the minimum?
I ask because that's what the model was for the Mavs during Dirk's career. I really thought they did well with it. But then the new CBA in 2011 changed everything, and the Mavs became more about "keeping the powder dry."
I don't think they can keep the powder dry anymore, so I like that their strategy will have to pivot. But I do think there's a budget in mind so that they don't become repeat tax offenders. The budget might be the tax apron, which would explain their used of the BAE again this year on Sterling Brown.
What do you all think of this strategy and do you think this is the model/plan going forward with Luka? Or do you think they'll go with a different plan/strategy?

With as many three point shooters we could be deadly against anyone when they are hot but you need defenders to win that way when the shots don’t fall and then you need size inside to attack the rim with tip ins and put backs off the offensive rebounds that exist because you have taller players than the other guys. Old inside out strategy works like it did with the spurs for a decade plus you got it going and you look to find upgrades and steals at tdl or in the draft you try for guys that you can use right away w less development time

We wasted the time of sign good FA in last 3years, now we only hope for a lucky trade or for a star who demand to come here. Good luck.

Sign and Trades are a possibility as well. Let's hope the Mavs have enough ammo (in terms of salary cap rules) for something like that though. Those can be tricky if the salaries don't match up.

They now have 3 years of over the cap, this year they won't be tax payers, the next 2 probably will be.
The strategy should be stay deep, with lots of usable contracts to trade for a star, next year they'll have Powell, Boban, Burke, Bullock, Brown as expiring (Reggie is partially guaranteed for 3rd year), the year after they'll have KP's massive expiring.
In the meantime, they'll be looking to trade with a team that's planning to tear it up.

Based on their plan for this off season and what they were able to actually get done I think their main goal is still to have a legit second option to Luka. KP will continue to get his crack at being that guy this season. If he can’t then in 2023 I expect the Mavs to be looking to move his expiring contract to acquire another player. There will always be a “John Wall” or “Russell Westbrook” out there that teams are looking to dump. And I don’t mean those guys specially, just there will always be a seriously over paid player that a team is looking to dump.
Until then they will also add players with the MLE and smaller trades. I think at some point this season they will also acquire Dragic. And over the next couple of years I could to see more Euros added to the team that want to play with Luka. The Euro talent pool is really only going to continue to get better and a lot of these young Euros are now looking up to Luka (as their Michael Jordan). There will be a point where one or more of those guys are willing to take less just to play with Luka.

Yeah, and depending on how KP plays, they might re-sign him so that he doesn't leave in FA. We'll see though.
I hope Burke gets traded though.

Trade: trade away redundant players for a more versatile roster and more reasonable playing time and more stable role for each player. In case, a right deal is there, do not hessitate to trade KP. Find the missing pieces from trade. As of now, undersized C or natural PF together with 2nd playmaker who's somewhat 2-way player is a focus. Remove one-dimension player for values.
Scout: Draymond Green like undersized C/PF prospect (i.e. block shots, steals, passes, shoots, and switch); two-way combo guard with elite shooting and playmaking like FVV.
Culture: hardworking and being professional. No more load management and special treatment from top to bottom of the roster. No more undisciplined moves (such as partying, nightclub activities, putting on ill-advised shots from logo without Dame or Curry's percentage).
Internal 2-way player development: KP? Green? Brown? Ntilikina? Hardaway?
Put an end to big lineup experiment if the lack of interior and perimeter defense issues continue. Seth Curry as 1 is more effective than J-Rich has already told the whole truth. The big lineup doesn't work because random SF cannot guard natural 1/2 and the Mavs has way too many ineffective defenders up front. That means put a PG body in the lineup and use Doncic as PF. Actually, I think Doncic has Draymond potential somewhat defensively. Luka was pretty strong rebounder and shotblocker last season.
Bulking up KP and see what happen. No more babysitting for KP. No more load management. No more shy from contact.
Prioritizing defense and smart. Whoever playing great defense (and being somewhat effective offensively) gets playing time. Do not priotizing veterans or whoever gets paid. No more set minutes distribution like RC. Playing time should be dictated by production and favorable mismatches every game. To get playing time, players should try to be versatile and being effective on both end. No more sleepwalking for KP, Kleber and Moses Brown from time to time. Whoever sleepwalking in game, playing time will turn to teammates. No more inconsistent effort from game to game.
Do not focus on relationship. Cuban and RC makes the same mistakes every year by giving Brunson and Powell too many chances despite not being effective on both end. Focus on performance instead of relationship.
