Thoughts On Sterling Brown?

He has looked good in the preseason. Seems like he might run some sets too since he's a bit underrated as a ball handler. He can at least handle/lead the fastbreak, which I like.

What do you all think of him?

He’s not afraid to attack the rim either when it’s open.

.423 from 3 last year and can handle the ball? Playing time please.

Honestly, all the role players are pretty much equal right now for me and I want the Mavs to have a short leash with any of them. I know we all like Kleber and DFS, but they haven't proven that they are sure things out there.

If Kleber and Powell don't perform, go small and play Brown and Bullock a lot. If THJ or DFS don't perform, play them off the bench and put one of the two new guys in the starting line-up. You have 82 games to see what's working and what isn't. Use those games.

Sterling Brown hustles and can play some defense. That was a savvy signing for sure. I love that they targeted him and Bullock with the MLE and BAE. Just wish that the Mavs had gotten someone else with the cap space they had, but they got the TPE to pick up someone that might help. I think, with the way Kidd wants them to play, a guy like Montrezl Harrell would actually be a good get for the TPE, but I kinda want to see how this team pans out right now. They have enough bigs and not enough wings, so maybe a guy like Kyle Anderson would be a better fit.

Seems he can drive and attack the rim...it's way better than DFS in those category.
If he can defend a little bit he earns minutes.

An absolutely excellent use of the BAE.

DFS plays the 3/4 role though. I don't really see either guy stealing minutes from each other.

No way DFS is a 4, only Carlisle could think this.

He'll get some minutes at the 4 with Kidd too, I'm sure. I think Kidd had Jabari Parker playing some minutes at the 4 with MIL.

I hope not, unless specific situations...

I don't mind it so long as he's rebounding well. If he's not rebounding well, then don't play him at the 4 too much.
But he could help them space the floor at the 4, just that, he's not a post defender, and again, if he isn't rebounding well, then it's not working.
When he played the 4 against the Clippers in the playoffs, it was fine. He did decently well against some other teams, but I like him more at the the 3 spot.
I don't think he's a 2 at all though.

He is a good offensive rebounder, above average general rebounder...not enough good paired with our Cs.
Yes he space the floor but he can't guard big SF/PF, he was destroyed by Kawhi/Lebron ecc ecc...maybe he is better against, not so quickly, SG and PG.
We need desperatly a big body wing... Hope in Omoruyi.

It's tough to defend Kawhi and LeBron no matter what, but yeah, DFS isn't the answer. The issue is that there aren't a lot of lockdown defenders the Mavs can get.

really want to see what he can give.. i think we've already seen what dfs ceiling is maybe not a bad idea to gradually see what this guy can bring.

DFS should be earning a Sterling Brown type of contract. Yet Cuban might give him a $15 to $20M per after his deal wraps up this season.

Dorian signed 12M for 3years, he has that type of contract yet.

The problem isn't DFS, he could be very usefull but the abboundance of that kind of players(and the others are paied a lot more)

Dorian's current deal is almost up. The concern is Cuban might decide to give him a THJ or a Dwight Powell type of contract because he certainly has the track record of overpaying for role players. DFS at his current rate isnt so bad. But DFS paid with Dwight Powell money is just bad for the team long term.

I've read somewhere that 4years 55M is the max for him...i think Cuban will offers that deal for sure, but we are already over the cap, this is not so important.

Maybe , for future trades, it's better to have expensive contract. But then we have to trade and not overvalue our players.

Yeah, I love that about him. He has Dallas roots (SMU) too.

After 10games he seems waste of money... He can't do nothing on the court.
At this point it's time to try Green, at least for increase his trade value. He can't play worse than Brown, neither a chair could.
