Big Man Offseason Wishlist

What Big Men do you think are on the Mavs wishlist this offseason?
Who's a realistic get?
Who do you think they'll actually get?

Wishlist: Ayton, Turner
Realistic: Bamba, M. Robinson, N. Claxton, Boucher, Holmes
Actual: Stopgap backup center. Start Powell and then will try and package expiring contracts for a starting center during the season.
I'd be disappointed if the actual happened but I can totally see that happening if they strike out on the realistic candidates.

I really don't want Turner, never played winning basketball, expensive and injury prune.
My realistic wish is Capella, unrealistic dream is Ayton.

With how the Jazz are imploding, Gobert may be available.

I prefer Capela, his cost could be low because Hawks are imploding too.

I get worried about Capela since his achilles injury seems be reducing his mobility and there's a tendency for the Hawks to close with Okongwu instead of him. Still a very good starting center but his numbers are noticeably down.
Would be happy to get him for cheap though.

Keep in mind that the Mavs only have $6M of thr tax payer MLE to spend.
To get a quality center, it has to be via trade. Which the Mavs have non assets (outside of Brunson) like Kleber, Bertans and Powell. So I dont know how you get quality back for sending something like that out.

I think Nico will trade the 1RP for sure, that's enough for Capela or something like him.

Dwight Howard for 2 year contract with TO? Trade up for Mark William?

I'm not even sure in today's NBA that you need a quality Big.
I would prefer the Mavs add the best player available.
I'd much rather have LaVine > Ayton. Although, that is very unlikely.
BTW, Joker is free in 2023. Unrestricted. As bad as DEN's roster has been this year. He might want out.

How has Hartenstein nor Nurkic been named in this thread yet?
They're both coming off their deals in this offseason. Tho Nurk seems likely to accept an offer privately made to him by Portland.
In the draft, we should pick the best player available. But if we were to draft on need, the best big seems to be Ismael Kamagate. more here,

Powell has been playing well and holding his own in that undersized center spot. But only because he knows his place and he knows the offense well. I'd like for the Mavs to get Nic Claxton as another center option. That way you address your current need and still leave the door open for Jokic in case he wants out of Denver the following year. You never know.

Yup agreed. But we also still have the 10.8 TPE that can be used to facilitate a SnT. I can see a team like the Nets doing a Claxton for TPE like deal, then flipping that TPE for insert ringchaser vet later.
Also the pitch the Mavs would have is how much rim running centers look good playing with Luka. Pretty much all of the options mentioned in the thread would start on the team, get major minutes, get a lot of national TV exposure and get a ton of easy baskets that could jack up their stock for the next contract. Some of these guys may want to take a smaller deal because of that, particularly if they don't get the offers they were expecting.

Trade the TPE later or use it in a 3 way trade. Allows team (in this case Brooklyn) to not lose Claxton for nothing. Ex. they could then flip/trade that TPE for Holmes or someone else that fits the 10.8 mil TPE.

I'm not 100% if it can be flipped again but cancel that idea anyway since I just noticed our TPE expires 07/31/22 just a few days before FA starts.

Mavs can't use TPE in S&T, it'd hardcap them and won't be able to resign Brunson.

Hartenstein and Harrell, another name not mentioned yet, are both playing over expectation this season. Had Moses Brown been above average in IQ, the Mavs should have already got the answer.

N.Claxton may be the best target, considering his mobily on defense, young age and price range
