:o He was a perfect player to pair with Doncic. He even stated that he needed to learn how to play with him, when to step back a bit and when to take over. Luka even let him finish games when he knew he wasn't feeling it.
He was pretty much bad on defense but i'm not sure he was worse than Dinwiddie who is basically doing pretty much the same as he was last year. So, if Dinwiddie works with Luka, Brunson pairing was even better.

And on top of it all, Luka was able to rest and didn't have to play almost full 2nd half games because Kidd could juggle all 3 of them.

Curious how Kyrie is a better fit than Brunson was. Kyrie has a much higher ceiling as a scorer and shot maker. Brunson is much younger though and would have cost less. But they’re both limited defensively.

People will inevitably compare both of them, depending on how the Mavs fare in the playoffs. But it would be more accurate to compare Kyrie and Markief Morris to Brunson, DFS and the draft picks they’d have kept.

Luka and Kyrie are going to have to light up the scoreboard in every game to lead the Mavs on a playoff run.

Because Irving is a better player than Brunson... Better scorer, rebounder, assist man and defender.

But Jalen is younger...

Reddick and Legler were talking about Luka and Kyrie.

That last shot, they were too close to each other so if one wanted to go one on one, the second defender up there could trap or hedge. They were also the best perimeter Timberwolves defenders, together in the same area.

Legler noted that Luka likes to operate from the top of the key area and moved at a slow pace whereas when Kyrie played with Lebron, they played at a much faster pace and Lebron and Kyrie were spaced much further apart usually.

However, Legler said Luka's been double-teamed more than any player and now has an outlet who could create his own shots. But doesn't think this trade will lift the Mavs' ceiling this season, especially with the other trades which have gone down in the West.

I think there is some truth to it. The NBA investigation included text message exchanges and phone call records. And they decided that it was tampering especially when the Knicks GM's son is Jalen's agent and Rick's job offer probably hinged on Jalen signing there, so money exchanged hands. The penalty though is another story.

You're the one bringing back an old thread, this was last week's news. Nobody cares but you

One fact remains, Brunson did not deserve an extention after the LAC playoff series, he was a straight bum. But he made up for it last season and showed this year why he is an all star level talent.

The appealing part of his contract is that it's declining. I might be on an island solo but I personally don't want him on the books for $27m that he made this season. $26m, $25m, $25m player option.

I wish him all the best in his playoff series against Cleveland.

If Brunson stayed and the big trade isn’t made, Mavs are in the playoffs, yes?

With a good chance to reach the WCF again?

Or would the Mavs have still tanked for a top 10 pick?

Perfect... A desperate team offered that contract and we didn't trade him, so you can see the result.

Thanks for make me even more smart, I would like to reciprocate but finding your intelligent message is practically impossible. Sorry

What were the offers we had for Brunson? You dont just trade a guy just because you dont want to pay him. Letting someone walk is always better than taking on garbage.

I disagree.
I don't feel confident that the team would be an automatic playoff cotnender muchless make the WCF. However, I am content with having odds in this lottery, so that's certainly a positive.

There is no way Brunson wouldn't have dragged us to the playoffs. The non-Luka minutes become a major positive immediately. I agree WCF would be a stretch with DFS and Bullock regressing. We also would have some growth with Green.

Unpopular take:
He made the right decision individually. In Dallas he would be the scapegoat #1 and in trade news constantly. People here gave dismissively credit for winning the minutes without Luka and with Luka dribbling the ball 20-sec you can only look bad stuck in the corner. Same reason I expect Ky to be hated on if he resigns - but I still hope he does.

Brunson got thrown under the bus the 1st 2 PHX games last year, besides, brunson on 55/4 would've been the best value contract in the league

From an objective point of view, Brunson made the right move to get more starter minutes. Any player that is not of all star status, that plays with Doncic will be relegated to a spot up shooter role. Simple as that. So if you accept to be a 3 point shooting scrub for life, then go do that and stand behind the 3 point line and just wait for a pass. If you want to bet on yourself then you have to get out of Luka's shadow. Harden did the same thing to CP3 back in Houston and turned CP3 into a spot up shooter. It takes another all star to check an all star. Harden was forced to adjust playing with Embiid. Luka will adjust playing with Kyrie. Cant be tagged as the white boy who cant play with superstars. That's a tough rep to shed league wide.
