Buyout candidate monitoring thread

Post#1 » by dirkules_41 » Fri Feb 10, 2023 1:23 am

I figured it would make sense to keep track of buyout candidates separately from the trade thread.
So far I've seen:
- Will Barton
- Reggie Jackson
- Pat Bev
- Terrence Ross
- John Wall
- Dewayne Dedmon
- (Russ Westbrick)
- Danny Green (?)

Just curious, but why is Westbrook in brackets?

He's easily the best player in that group. Not sure if he would fit, but he's solid coming off the bench. Although I think there's a good chance be ruins the chemistry of doncic and kyrie

Because I think it goes without saying that he is surplus to requirements on a team with Luka and Kyrie given his desire to play significant minutes, etc.

Dedmon is washed. Completly. Nerlens maybe, but not a fan. Ross feels like the best candidate for 3rd ballhandler, but havent followed him this year so dont know if he got anything left. Reggie seems done from his play this year, last year version would have been nice

If I were to guess how Kidd thinks, he's probably okay with Powell - Mcgee - Wood - Maxi all rotating and getting minutes at the big man spot.

That being said, I'd chase down Reggie Jackson instead. To have him at PG spotting up for open threes with Luka while Kyrie sits down 10 mins a game is a luxury.

Since Wood and McGee stayed, I'd cross off all bigs, and focus on 3rd PG, Reggie Jackson and PatBev interest me the most.

I agree with some Mavrelous on concentrating on a 3rd guard. Teams will constantly blitz especially when we stagger Kyrie and Luka. Josh is a good release valve in those situations but he can't play all 48 minutes. The free agent pool for guards also has the most talent and capable difference makers. My preference is PatBev and Jackson who are both guys proven in the playoffs and proven to be able to play off of superstars.

If there were good 3&D wings available that would he my focus but I don't think Danny Green is healthy enough to contribute.

Holmes might be unlikely since he has two years left on his deal and if he accepts a buyout, he may not be able to makeup the money he left on the table to join a contender for the minimum?

For Reggie Jackson it's highly likely he gets bought out in 24 to 48 hours. Kyrie needs to be texting this guy to back him up as we speak.

Highly doubt Holmes gets bought out. Kings are out there competing for a playoff berth and need all the depth they can get.

In all seriousness, does Westbrook playing off the bench here help the team? At all?

Sure he'd cost the minimum and play 10 minutes when Kyrie is getting a breather. Talent wise he should be neck and shoulder above Reggie IMO. It's his fit that is in question.

Terry Taylor sounds like an interesting name. Only 6-5 but plays bigger than his size, young and energetic too. But if only one slot is needed, a 3rd ballhandler is the one I would be looking at. Prime candidate would be Pat Beverley.

I like Taylor. Undersized but he's a really good rebounder. Good shoutout.

Never heared of Taylor, but seems like a good idea for 2-way contract instead of MWIV if 3rd PG is signed

Of the names mentioned, I'd consider:
Derrick Rose
Reggie Jackson
as 3rd handler

Serge Ibaka
Dedmon
as 3D center (if Maxi is out for the rest of the season)

I prioritize the frontcourt piece since Maxi has undergone a surgery. There's current no timetable for return. If Rose is being done good by NYK, I would welcome the addition. I'm not particularly high on Reggie Jackson. I kinda like how Jackson competes against the Mavs past few seasons, though.

I don't think I want a guard that can't shoot, i.e. Wall, Westbrook and Beverely. I may consider Barton / Ross if Hardaway goes down. Otherwise, no. Both are streaky as hell. But both are not particularly great. I'd rather develop Green and Hardy.
