What were those terrible TRADE/MOVE made in Mavs history to you?

Post#1 » by Ni Da Ye » Wed Mar 29, 2023 4:16 pm

When KP was traded to the Wizards, I didn't mind the trade to begin with.

But now since the Kyrie trade (losing Spencer) and seeing how Wizards want to keep KP, I start to feel terrible about the KP trade.

Regarding the Kyrie trade, my stance won't change until Kyrie is proven worthy.

On another note, I have seen so many people claim that letting Nash walk is one of the worst decision Cuban ever made. I always disagree on that notion. At the time, letting Nash leave and hand the PG position to Harris who can play D was nothing but necessary.

Letting Brunson walk on the other hand is totally a disaster, which has backfired so much this year. :noway:

S&T Erika Dampier for 90/7, it had severe cap ramifications for LT paying Mavs.
Trading KP for 2 bad contracts after investing Mavs cap space in 2 guards (THJ and Bullock), the return was horrible, saved by heroic second half of the season, but it encouraged them to let Brunson walk, which backfired.

They didn't let Brunson go. He chose to go to New York.

I will go for the 1996/97 trifecta of bad trades. We lost Jackson, Mashburn, and Kidd. The only good player in return was Finley from all that.

a. Mavericks trade Jason Kidd, Tony Dumas and Loren Meyer to the Phoenix Suns for Sam Cassell, Michael Finley, A.C. Green and a second-round draft pick in 1998 – Dec. 26, 1996

b. Mavericks trade Jim Jackson, Sam Cassell, Chris Gatling, George McCloud and Eric Montross to the New Jersey Nets for Shawn Bradley, Ed O’Bannon, Robert Pack and Khalid Reeves – Feb. 17, 1997

c. Mavericks trade Jamal Mashburn to the Miami Heat for Sasha Danilovic, Martin Muursepp and Kurt Thomas – Feb. 14, 1997

Letting go of Chandler, Stevenson, Caron Butler AND JJB after the championship season. Then trading a FRP for Odom. If we kept the original team + the addition of Brandan Wright and Vince Carter, we might have been able to contend. That would have been a Hella deep team.

We kinda let Brunson walk since we had two opportunities to pay him and keep him for long term and we didn't.

I was sooo pissed when they traded Kidd for Finley.

The Jim Jackson trade was bad but Cassell should have been a more than adequate replacement. Bradley was also serviceable.

The Mashburn trade wouldn’t have been so bad if Kurt Thomas hadn’t gone back on his word and resigned with his hometown Mavs instead of signing with the Knicks out of nowhere.

Dale Ellis for Al Wood was by far the worst trade in Mavs history and it isnt even close.

Detlef Schremf for Herb William's was probably the 2nd worst.

Letting Brunson, Chandler and Nash walk. Trades are hit and miss, being cheap is just stupid.

Those decisions were awful for sure.

For the trade, Rondo is my choice (and Powell starter for the past 5years is a son of that).

Sam Cassell went to the Nets in the Jim Jackson trade. We received him in the Kidd trade. Basically, we traded Jim Jackson, Sam Cassell, and All Star Gatling for Bradley and spare parts.

This! The 3 J's were a promising core that finally had Mavs fans hyped, and the team decimated it and did not have anything great to show for it.

To a certian extent. The first opportunity he didn't deserve anything close to a good deal, he just had gotten abused in the playoffs during the Clippers series and looked nothing more than a bench piece.

The main issue was the way Nelson structured the contract that made him an URFA

The Odom move was stupid as well. Never trust the Lakers.

Severla of the issues stated, losing Brunson for nothing, trading DFS for an ill fitting Kyrie; would be moot if the FO drafted either of Maxey or Bane instead of Green. So that too deserves a nod

After Jim Cleamons got fleeced in the Jason Kidd trade, they hired Don Nelson, Sr. to be the GM. He finished the job of dumping the three J's and started a new team from scratch. My big issue was Don Nelson, Sr. is that he always loved freakishly tall players. I guess that is why he traded Jackson, Cassell, and Gatling for Bradley.

First one that comes to my mind, we were on track to have the best offensive rating in NBA history to that point at the time of that trade.
