The Reggie Bullock Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by Mavrelous » Fri Jul 7, 2023 10:55 am

Reggie came to the Mavs through MLE signing during the summer of the 2021, after suffering devastating loss in the 1st round in the PO to the LA Clippers, Luka was a 1 man offense that destroyed the defensive juggernaut, but Mavs couldn't guard the perimeter to save their lives, and Clippers went off, Nico was hired and answering defense was his mission, Bullock was never considered a good guard, he was OK, but was a journey man who charged close to the vet min salaries, until he played under Knicks Thibodeau, a team that finished the RS with PO HCA, and were known for their tenacious defense.
Mavs offered him the MLE, basically more the double his highest ever salary before, and Bullock was a Maverick mere minutes into FA.
He came off the bench in the first half of the season, THJ was starting, didn't shoot well in OCT/NOV, like he always does, the team under preformed, but it was evident that the bench unit led by Brunson, was outplaying the starters with Luka/KP/THJ, so Brunson was bumped up to the starting unit in place of THJ.
THJ goes for a layup late Jan, and breaks his foot, KP gets traded, and Bullock is bumped into the starting lineup, Reggie Bullock and Dorian-Phinney Smith form a pair of 3&D wings, combined with a switchable center, Maxi or Powell, Mavs become one of the best defensive teams in the league, despite not having a rim protector or a good rebounder on the team, Luka, Brunson and Dinwiddie carried all the offensive load, Reggie, Doe Doe, Maxi and Powell, defended like crazy, rotated like crazy, helped everywhere, and shot the wide open jumper when called to.
Come PO time, THJ is still injured, Luka goes down, deep bench guards (Trey Burke, Sterling Brown) aren't providing anything, and Reggie and Doe Doe go on a 40 MPG PO journey that is the absolute best PO since Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs to a title.
We will always remember 2022 PO Reggie, you were tough as nails, relentless and left it all out there.
Next season was a mess, no one found himself, from FO, to coaching staff to every player on roster, at the end being the only expiring contract on roster, Reggie had to be traded, it never felt the same since Doe Doe also left.

Thanks for everything Reggie, loved watching you play, hated that hair thing on your head.

Thanks for posting this. Bullock got a lot of hate this past year, much of it not really warranted. He was a true competitor and a big part of why we made the WCF. He was on a fair deal too. If he wasnt on SA who is always gifted a #1 pick when a big generational talent is available, I'd wish him all the best.

Waived from the Spurs, 0 trade value ... Luka was incredible for reachin the WCF with him and DFS (Who is unplayble with the Nets) in the starting lineup. Ouch.
