I think Lively should be the starter, its in the team's best interest, especially for the future

This is what Im most concerned about with the team and the klay signing. its a pretty gaping hole, and klay isnt exactly known as a great leader either. i want to give him a chance to see how things go, but i think he's better off the bench with naji starting or being used to trade for a better fitting 3 if things go south.

It's on guys like Grimes and Naji to prove that they can be better fits in the SL then Klay. If they can do that, I believe Klay would be eventually willing to come off the bench and be a flamethrower 6th man. He pouted a bit about it last year but eventually came to accept it for several games, coming off the bench for a rookie Podz and putting his best numbers when playing off the bench. I don't see it being an issue here either, as long as someone else steps up enough to make prove its the right decision.

Yep, having a rim protector for 48 minutes + bigger wings defenders in PJ/Naji should help, DJJ also was the best fastbreak player in the team and the main recipient of Luka's outlet passes, PJ should try to fill this slot also.

You can be sure that Klay didn't leave Warriors to start on the bench. People are exaggerating problems about Luka/Kyrie/Klay D like they will play all game together. They won't. Kyrie will go early out in first and then they will be staggering minutes, the only real problem I see is in ending games, but you would hope that those 3 can just out score opponents. ( not even talking about all games Kyrie and Luka will miss).

If Klay shoots 3s 40%+ with big volume there won't be any problems. Good luck with defending Luka with double teams, if you have to worry about Kyrie and Klay. Klay might had bad season last year, but he was still shooting 39% for 3 and almost everyone has better % playing with Luka, who generates the most open shots in the league.

If we see Klay coming from the bench you can be certain that season went wrong.

Yes most of the time we will have just 2 of them on the court together so i don't see too much defensive problems.

We need a strong start for a easy last month of the season and stay fresh before the PO.

Hopefully, it would be win win for all involved if Grimes or Marshall play that well. A big if, but looking forward to seeing them try. Though I was pretty excited about Josh Richardson (and Dennis Smith Jr) when we got him, and that didnt exactly turn out all that great.

I sincerely doubt the Mavs would allow an mle signing to derail their season. If Klay struggles in the starting unit but Grimes looks like he's back to 2023 form, the Mavs will have the difficult talk. Thats why Kidd is here, no? To make this kind of thing work with the ego's of multiple champions and an MVP talent?

If Klay struggles they should trade him, you can't expect he will give everything playing after Naji and Grimes. He left Warriors because he wasn't satisfied with his role anymore, you can't expect he will be happy with that kind of role in Mavs. His motivation is clear, prove that he's still top Nba player. That's why he's here and you can be sure Mavs gave him some assurances.

It's worth mentioning, even if I'm lower on Klayvthan most; this team should be much better off with Klay, Grimes, and Marshall over Thj and Green. Plus, anything Dinwiddie gives us is just added bonus

Don't forget DJJ too. Imo I'm still a little iffy on whether Naji is an upgrade over DJJ. I lean towards the elite athleticism and very high level POA defense of DJJ being better for us but we'll see. Love Naji's interviews so far though. Really hoping his improved 3 pointer from last year continues.
