MFFL

Post#1 » by Swish77 » Wed Feb 5, 2025 11:02 pm

Mavs have a much deeper connection for me. I lost my Grandpa in 2012 my mother in 2013 and my Grandpa in 2014. I was in a very very dark point in my life and I turned to the Mavs to help heal my heart and wounds in my life. I was a Mavs fans before I lost my mother and grandparents. But i can admit I was just a casual fan. Id go to games with friends and it was a blast but when I lost them I started being a real hardcore MFFL. Bc it took my mind off missing them 24/7 I lost them around Nov each year. So every night I had something to watch or go to to keep my mind off them. And watching Dirk taught me alot in life and it helped me heal my heart and wounds in my life. And once we drafted Luka I knew everything would be fine after I went to a couple games and saw him in person. I knew my joy of Mavs bball could continue bc we had Luka Magic for 7 years its been the best time of my life. Every night I knew no matter what happened in my life could sit in my living room turn on the TV and watch Luka. Since Saturday night Ive been depressed saddened. I have zero motivation in my life right now to do anything. And I'm asking how can I get over the Luka trade? Its like Iv lost a loved one all over again. I'm I the only person going through this?

You are definitely not alone. It's a dark road ahead but I think once we are done mourning we need to put our energy into protesting Nico & the owners.

Luka helped me transition from Dirk retiring. Watching 40 year old Dirk share the same court with rookie Luka was priceless. I felt like I would be in good hands with Luka for the future and that has been taken away from me. Dirk was the most humbling player I ever met from a career standpoint and a fan. Dirk showed him the ways of giving time for the fans and how to be professional.

Luka is still maturing as a person. I remember when Dirk, Nash, and Cuban partied together, but eventually, life hits. We became the Lakers farm system and gave them the second best Maverick to ever wear the jersey.

I assume this trade is going to shake Luka some and cause him to be more focused. Lebron will make sure it happens because he needs Luka.

I intend on supporting Luka. I just hope he eventually turns on the Lakers. Lebron is going to greatly benefit from him but Luka will also benefit from Lebron.

Watching won't be easy!

OP You are not alone.

Glad you chose to open up instead of keeping everything to yourself.

I think all mavs fans feel some sort of obligation to listen, empathize and share feelings.

Let's keep our heads up. One day Luka will return as a Mav, book my words. (After the current management is gone ofc.)

I agree.

I want to see a ferocious relentless campaign from the fanbase, and maybe even fans of other teams chipping in. I want it in their face everywhere they look, and never a break from the reality of it.

Nico Harrison MUST be fired. He CANNOT get away with this.

It won't bring back Luka, but that guy HAS to be fired.

I donated some money to that yesterday, plan to add more my next paycheck. If anyone's got the means please donate. If not share. We need to keep this energy up and probably be more united than ever right now.

That's the point for me, if that campaign will be limited just to Mavs fans it loses a lot of power.

This type of "movement" (oh well... It was a gift or a collusion, not a trade) hurts every NBA fans.
It's against the spirit of the game.

We need help, something like this MUST never happen again.
This is sports fraud against the league... But probably Silver is happy right now and he prefers to investigate on Terry Rozier gambling over Harrison&Pelinka.
Easy target.

And I expect some large donations from important and influential people in the Dallas area.

Mavs fan since 1999 here. Losing Luka remind me when we lost Steve Nash, I was devastated. Dirk and Nash were my two favorite players and it’s like no one really understood how good Nash was until the D’Antoni unlocked him.

I was concerned about Dirks retirement as well because who the hell were we going to route for and we received an amazing gift in Luka. Now I played ball my whole life and watched ball my whole life and the one thing I know is if you aren’t a top defense you are not winning a chip and you must have great defenders for the opposing best player and for the inside. We just had a hard time getting what we needed to surround Luka. Also no player that hold the ball like Luka has won a chip. So even tho we did make it to the finals, I’ve just personally had major doubts and I was operating of hope. Yes Luka makes anything seem possible.

Deep down I knew that we needed more defenders and just better defense overall but there is absolutely no way you’d hear me say trade Luka. I think Nico kind of did us a favor as we were going to have a hard time getting the defenders we actually need as we have since Luka got here.

I say all that to say, defense does win championships and there wasn’t and easy path to being able to surround Luka with what was necessary.

This is what I tell myself to make myself feel better. Hope it helps a little lol.

Just know we have the best front court in the league and the best interior defense in the league. We will also become a faster team which is a plus. So when we start forcing teams off the 3 point line (I hope), they literally will be hesitating to go inside. We just have to wait and see how this team plays.

My friend no offense but your are a dreamer...

Best front court in the league is Nikola Jokic.
We can have 1000 great bigs. But Jokic is better than anyone else.

And I can immagine how Boston is scared to stay off the 3 points line... They shot 50 3s a game

However Boston is no more a problem for us, we will not reach Finals again too soon.

Thank you for all the kind words and ideas on how to get over this. Its hard to keep our heads up right now. I think Ill take a couple weeks off from watching the Mavs and see if that fire comes back for me to want to watch them again. Is it a bad thing if I support Luka and watch the Lakers games?

Its going to be tough for Kyrie being the only ball handler and playing 42 mins a game. I just don't think his body can hold up carrying that kind of load.

Honestly? Yes... A Mavs fan can't router for the Lakers.

I just hope that Luka will screw the entire league and sign with the Nuggets next year as a FA. It's my dream.

I'd watch Luka but wish LeBron to fail as always.

There's nothing wrong with being a player fan. There's no rulebook for who you have to support.

I stand by having the best front court. Jokic is for sure the best player in the league though.

And we did nothing to in terms of getting another creator so idk what our plans are.
