What if Nico somehow gets Giannis to Mavs?

Post#1 » by GermanFan120 » Wed Apr 30, 2025 4:35 pm

Bucks are done, and Giannis is pissed and wants out, and Bucks org knows they are a mess and Giannis wants out.

What if Nico makes everyone on Mavs roster available and is able to trade for Giannis to match the salary?

Questions:
1. Would Nico redeem his deadly mistake from the terrible Luka trade if he is able to pull off this trade?
2. Would you be able to swallow the pain from the Luka trade and look forward to future as a Mavs fan?
3. Would you think Giannis will be able to put Mavs back on the map again as a title contender?

If Mavs plan to keep both Kyrie and AD, then getting Giannis would cost a lot. Similar to getting KD. You're going to have to send 3 to 4 players out.

Basing off Nico's exit interview, I have a feeling he sticks to this group. 2 big contract guys surrounded with a lot of above average middle tier guys. Having 3 max contracts would mean a very thin roster. And that leads to fizzling out if you're making a deep playoff run.

AD and Giannis would be a terrible combination. AD is not as flexible as people thought he is and he would need to camp the 3pt line for Giannis to be able to do anything. How do you then stretch the floor for Kyrie and Klay? On paper it sounds great but in reality i'm more pessimistic. But the same old problems would still exist. Completely kill any depth and pair him with unreliable AD and who knows how Kyrie will look after the ACL.

Had he waited, Bucks would have instantly taken Luka for Giannis...

Assuming Nico didn't trade Luka mid-season but he was patiently waiting for the best opportunity to get rid of Luka, what will happen in the chain of events:

1. Mavs not good enough to be back to nba final (quite likely)
2. Bucks lose in the 1st round again, Giannis pissed
3. With Luka, Kyrie doesn't get ACL injury
4. Nico offers Luka for Giannis and Bucks accept the trade offer
5. Mavs fans won't be as mad and hurt

OMG FIRE NICO!!!

AD is a walking mess... He can't stay healthy and he wants to play at the 4 where in this NBA era he is unplayable at high level.

I would like to trade him for Giannis but i don't see any fool GM who trade his franchise player for street clothes. I'm Sorry.

Bucks don't have much leverage left. We can give Bucks a fat package including Lively + AD and others to get Giannis.

He wouldn't be able to trade him even then because Mavs would be in the finals again.

That's a ridiculous statement. Lakers have ZERO bench and no bigs. Mavs had incredible depth, with perfect role players and 2 centers to play 48 mins. Luka is Lakers' best rim protector lol...

I highly doubt Giannis would want anything to do with our ownership.

You forget one thing. Luka is a free agent. Oops. He actually has one year left on his current contract before the option year.

Luka's situation is interesting because it's the first time in his career that he gets a say on where he can go. He should leave IMO.

I guess we will see if he wants the maximum money or wants to win. His best contract option is to sign an extension with the Lakers. He could play one more year in LA and let his contract run out. At that point, he is free to go wherever he wants.

We know he’s not coming back to Dallas. So with that in mind I want to see Luka go to a smaller market. I just cannot root for him while he’s with the Lakers. Luka needs to go to San Antonio.

LBJ could truefully end up with the Mavs. The window is 2 years perhaps. LAL is supposed to pursuit Giannis or Jokic.
