Great deal for the Mavs, terrible deal for Kyrie.

Indeed.
Kyrie has seemed to enjoy his time with us. I like his attitude and seeing Kyrie happy.

What's terrible about it? He's got more money than he'll be able to spend in this lifetime, he's in a place that looks to be competitive, he found a home where he isn't harassed like in NYC but appreciated and feel at home with his family.
To uproot that to potentially get 10-20% extra income, that he doesn't need, makes little sense.
Instead he gets 3 years worth of security on his probably last very big contract.

Great deal for both parties imo.

Even with the injury he should have gotten 50/yr, I consider taking 20% less as terrible...
He could have opt in and extend for 2 years at the max, it wasn't his fault Nico traded for that terrible Martin deal...

He's at 300m+ career earnings, you're probably not. Much like Kyrie personally I also wouldn't do a job I like less for 20% more, you might however. Kyrie has shown he's a family man and has a need for peace and appreciation which he found here.

I hope you're right, but there was some drama before he opted out, that's why it dragged until very late.

Didn't hear of any - think they just kept the news until pre-draft to send a clear message into the draft. I didn't for a minute sweat him staying long term, sounded like he wanted to stay here all year long really. Only Nicos incompetence and the shock of the Luka trade made us sweat I reckon.

It's damned if you do, damned if you don't.

If Nico signed him to $50M, Mavs Twitter would be on his ass saying it's the worst deal of the century.

Nico signed him to a team friendly deal, suddenly it's Kyrie getting underpaid for his efforts.

Can't please everyone. Take your wins and keep moving along.

Excellent deal, Kyrie is missing a chunk of next season. He wants to win a chip. I believe he tried to look out and take a team friendly considering the circumstances and potential if we have flexibility.

Love this deal and Ky allows us some room to address the massive hole in the backcourt.

Shams spoke to Kyrie and he had 3 things to say:

He signed the smaller deal because he wanted to show committment to Dallas just as how they were committed to him. He wanted to build a legacy in Dallas after the fallout with Brooklyn. And lastly he believes the team can win a chip.

Even without winning a ring, I think #11 will go up there beside 41. 1st ballot HOF.

No ring = no jersey in the AAC.

Yeah, i don't understand what Kyrie has done to justify his jersey being retired. He's been injured a lot during seasons, leaving Luka to carry the load. Then completely vanished in the Finals, again leaving Luka to play almost solo. I think Kyrie has a very LONG way to go in order for his jersey to be retired.

Even with ring, I'd say it's a fat chance...

I am curious to see if this will be true or not.

I will let us know what kind of culture our ownership wants to have.
