Bulls/Mavs/Clippers Trade Idea

Bulls Trade: Kirk Hinrich, Ben Wallace, and Thabo Sefolosha
Bulls Receive: Corey Maggette, Sam Cassell, Erick Dampier, Trenton Hassell, 08 1st (DAL)
(Waive Demetris Nichols)

Mavs Trade: Erick Dampier, Trenton Hassell, 08 1st Round Pick, 08 2nd
Mavs Receive: Ben Wallace

Clippers Trade: Corey Maggette and Sam Cassell
Clippers Receive: Kirk Hinrich, Thabo Sefolosha, 2nd round pick

Why For the Bulls?
Things simply aren't working for Chicago, so it's time for a change. Maggette gives the Bulls a guy who can consistently attack the hoop and get to the line. He's a big G/F and would effectively end the Bulls small-backcourt. Cassell would give the Bulls a true leader. He'd also be a great distributor and a guy who can help Gordon in the clutch. Hassell gives the Bulls a defensive stopper. Dampier has a longer contract than Wallace, however, he will not get entitlement minutes so Noah, Gray, and Thomas will benefit. Wallace has $44 mill remaining on his contract, while Dampier has about $41 mill, so ultimately the Bulls save there. The extra first round pick gives the Bulls some added flexibility.

Why for the Mavs?
Dampier and Hassell simply aren't big parts of their team. Cuban will pay to win, and you've got to believe that he'd feel more comfortable going against Duncan and KG in the playoffs with Wallace on his side. It's a no brainer for the Mavs.

Why for the Clippers?
Cassell is on the brink of demanding a trade, Maggette is likely to try and leave LA as a free-agent, and the Clippers are struggling at the bottom of the West. It's time to rebuild. Hinrich instantly makes them younger while improving their defense considerably. Sefolosha gives them another young guard who brings defense and versatility. Hinrich, Sefolosha, and Livingston could compliment each other fairly well.

New Lineups:

Bulls
Diop/Noah/Gray
Smith/Thomas/Khryapa
Deng/Nocioni/Griffin
Maggette/Gordon/Hassell
Cassell/Duhon/Curry

Mavs
Wallace/Diop
Nowitzki/Bass/Howard
Howard/George
Stackhouse/Jones
Harris/Terry

Clippers
Kaman/Davis*
Brand*/Thornton/Williams
Thomas/Ross
Mobley/Sefolosha
Hinrich/Livingston*/Knight

*** I know Wallace is having a bad year, but under new Coach Boylan he's almost been back to his normal self. It appears as if he was just playing poorly because he disliked Skiles. Still, with the Bulls being a small team, he's a poor fit. Under Boylan he's averaging something like 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2.5 assists.

I don't believe you have an appreciation for what Dampier does for Dallas. He is a huge part of why they destroyed Detroit for stretches. I like Wallace and would not be opposed to bringing him in, but Dallas needs to find another way to get the deal done. Dampier is a major reason Dallas is considered a good defensive team... and that makes Wallace a lateral move for a smaller more expensive C, and coughing up 2 draft picks for the privilege - No thanks.

A couple of years ago I might have said yes but at this point I don't think Wallace is that much of an upgrade over Damp. I don't mind giving up Hassell because Avery has too many guys to use him much but I don't like the 1st round pick throw in. I would do it with:

Damp, Hassell and a 2nd rounder.

DAL gives up too much for little in return
on this team right now I'd rather have Damp than Big Ben

I'm with Sken, double no thanks. Damp stays here.

Going to Chicago was a disaster for Big Ben... Now I wouldnt even trade Damp and Hassell for him.

Oh, BTW, I really don't understand why non-mav fans don't seem to understand that we like Dampier and don't want to trade Dampier except for an obvious upgrade. And a drop of 15% from the FT line and 36% from the field in not an upgrade. Dampier has almost as many blocks with 2/3's the minutes, rebounding better per minute and has more points in way less minutes. Wallace is a downgrade and redundant to Diop.

Maybe if Chicago threw in their first round pick and we ended up getting Beasley in the deal... LMAO

Isn't funny how so many fans from other teams think that Dampier is useless. They clearly don't watch Maverick games. They think the Mavericks would be happy just to get out of his contract. I personally think he is not that overpaid. There are not that many guys who can do for us what Dampier does for the same money. He may be overpaid a bit but so are 1/2 the guys in the league.

And I retract my earlier post about Damp, Hassell and 2nd rounder for Wallace. He has dropped off way to much and I could not stand to watch him miss free throw after free throw. I am happier with Damp.

Wow, I'm surprised that there was a consensus against this one. I by no means think Dampier is useless, but I would have thought that most people would consider Wallace, at least, a slight upgrade as a one-on-one defender which could be incredibly valuable in a championship run.

That being said, I think Wallace's drop-off is exaggerated. He hated Skiles and played uninspired ball for him. With Boylan in, he's been averaging over 11 rebs, 2 blocks, and about 2.5 assists. That being said, he's a bad fit in Chicago because he takes away minutes from the young guys and it doesn't help that he's undersized since the rest of our team is undersized as well.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback. Good luck on the season.

clearly a trade form a bulls fan; dampier is worth more to the team, and a huge bargain comparitively, considering salaries.

How about swapping Diop for Damp, adding KVH and removing the draft picks?

Basically, Diop, KVH and Hassell for Big Ben.

Now we are getting somewhere. But I would throw in and Ager/Thabo swap; they both need a new environment.

Diop
Ager
Hassell
S&T KVH at 6.4 mil (min to reach 80% of outgoing salary for Chicago)

for

Wallace
Sefolosha

And I only do this because Diop will leave in free agency because of the way Avery is benching him. Ager/Thabo swap and getting rid of dead weight (because Avery won't play Hassell either) are both must's. Without that, I still would not do it.

Yeah I'd definitely do it with KVH instead. I'd honestly prefer that.

I wouldn't want to throw Sefolosha in though.

Now this I would do even without the Sefolosha part.
