We can see how hard the Mavs work...
...Devin becomes one of the elite point in the league. He played well against Parker, B.Davis and Builips. Surprisingly, he has found his jumpshots. He can now hit open jumper consistently.
...Dirk has refined his game. The "Neille solution" to Dirk no longer works. He has got the toughness and guts to put his team on his shoulder. That's what we longed for. He plays well defensively as well.
...Damp surprised me my getting to the starting lineup. Though he's not as quick running up and down the court. But he sticks to his words - he would find a way to battle with althetic centers.
...Josh Howard is in good progress. He gains respect on his jumpers finally. He has got the all-star number right now.
...All other rotation players are just fine. Jerry Stackhouse, Jason Terry, Eddie Jones, Brandon Bass are living up to expectation. If Desagana Diop, Trenton Hassell and Devean George can prove more. It's not surprising for AJ to have 10 depth instead of 9 before the playoff.
...The most important thing is the Mavs starting finding their identity again. They have a bundle of versatile player as well as good shooter but they remain a slashing team to draw hard fouls and open the lane. This kind of competitive attitude is essential while playing against elite teams.
...Good Job, Avery! Keep on! Go Mavs!

Im still a little upset with 2 players- Bass and Juwan. I didnt expect much from Juwan, but Bass has been a real letdown for me... Aside from that huge dunk last night, nothing he has done this year has impressed me that much... Its good to see Stack and Dirk doing complete 180s from how they started the season... Its a lot easier to watch the Mavs now.

You must have had very high expectations for Bass.
Stack sucks. I wish he would have season ending, non-debilitating injury so he could be an assistant coach.
If Harris continues to hit from the outside, he has a chance to pass Howard for 2nd best player.

I agreed with you until that last part. Stack has been comin on strong the last couple of games and is a great locker room guy. the mavs need him.
as for bass, when is the last time the mavs had a back up to dirk that could play back to the basket down low and post up rasheed wallace and throw down a semi-sick dunk? he has been perfecting a mid range baseline jumper too. i like bass a lot.

Well 2007, there is a good reason he has taken Diop's minutes. He's outplaying him and he can backup Dirk as well as Damp. That makes him valuable.
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

but shouldnt your backup C be a capable defender? aside from some block shots i dont think he's that great a defender, id like to see him get about 16 minutes backing up dirk but avery seems to insist on giving dirk 36 minutes a night.
ive been a little disappointed from the last couple games from josh, he's struggled shooting and he's not being very agressive, last year and the year before he was fantastic at driving, now he's become a good jump shooter and has almost taken the driving aspect from his game. i loved the analogy from this board a few weeks back how he's becoming another michael finley.

I dunno, Bass is pretty good at guarding those perimeter big men. Down low, he'll get eaten up by guys bigger to him. My only vice to him is that he has tunnel vision on offense. Once he touched the ball, you know he's gonna put it on the glass, no matter what. He doesn't do kick outs very well either. Or passing in general

I still don't get it what's wrong with Bass.

What's not to like? Could he be a much better defender? Of course. Obviously he could be a little smarter on the court, with a better defense, but the guy is only 22 years old. Don't forget he has an almost automatic J, even though he is that bulked up, he still has a soft touch, you just don't see it often. He will be only better and smarter, Avery trusts in this guy, and i can see why. He is much better then i (i think most of us) expected, who knows how high is his ceiling?

he can't make the 5-7 foot jumpshot in traffic that he throws up too often...
You're right about that. Maybe he should try off the glass-shots (he made one last night), or floater, since he got a nice touch he can learn those shots imo. Hopefully he has the mentality to improve on defense too, cuz i think in the defensive aspect of the game it's (almost) all about how hard you wanna try, and with the physichal tools he has, he should be a good defender, he can't be a great defender because he is undersized, but could be an above average man to man defender, and a very good team defender. I root for him.
