Stackhouse lands on injured list

Jerry Stackhouse joined Brandon Bass on the Mavericks' injury list with neither player certain of a speedy return.
Stackhouse re-injured a strained right hamstring in the first half and did not return. He missed last week's game at Sacramento with the same injury that first occurred against the Clippers on Jan. 12.
While coach Avery Johnson said he thought Stackhouse would be fine, the veteran swingman didn't rule out getting an MRI today. He said he wouldn't bet on him playing Friday night at home in the season's first meeting against the Los Angeles Lakers.
"It wasn't right," Stackhouse said of his leg. "It was a little worse than what I did to it in LA. It needs a few more days."
Juwan Howard ready
If Bass misses more time, Avery Johnson said he'll turn to veteran Juwan Howard, who played just 5:48 against the Bobcats.
Howard thrived last season with the Rockets during an extended stretch filling in for the injured Yao Ming. Revealing his apparent knowledge of journeymen utility baseball players, Howard made an interesting, if not an unusual, comparison to himself.
"You know a guy by the name of Craig Counsell?" Howard said of the major league baseball player. "I'm the Craig Counsell of this group... A guy that's under the radar, no one ever talks about it, doesn't go out there and try to grab all the attention with the media, a guy all his teammates know they can depend on."
