Bottom line on trading Harris?

POR fan here, we have been surprised by all these rumors of us possibly being involved in a 3-way with NJ and Dallas and getting Harris. Do you guys think there is any substance to this?, would you give up Harris and others to get Kidd
From a POR perspective Harris would be a nice fit next to ROY and is the right age for our young core group, be interesting to see if there is any "meat" to this.

Doubt it. It looks like some NJ hack reporter's wet dream and little more. Cuban was asked about the factuality of the Mavs giving up essentially that very package for Kidd, as the "report" is telling us, and his reply: you need to lay off smoking crack.

That idea was absurd. Not gonna happen.

No meat. He is critical to Mavs success, and his progress this year has made it very difficult for another team to acquire him.

Do you have a link for the prospective three-way trade?

Also, I have not seen any Port involved in these types of talks. can you point us to them?

If Dallas were willing to give up Harris, the trade would be completed by now.

On a side not, if Dallas were to trade Harris, I would love for him to land in Portland. I live in Portland and would love to not have to watch him on league pass all the time.

The luxury tax alone end the conversation. Let alone Devin Harris.

Cat, that's the same absurd trade package for Kidd (Dallas is giving up Harris, Diop, Stackhouse, George, picks, and cash) that inspired Cuban to tell the reporter to stop using crack. The only variation is now they've woven an absurd Portland angle into the mix.

A day ago, Kidd was an aging PG and NJ was having a hard time finding any decent offers. Now, by this hack's so-called "report" we have Dallas and Portland working hard to put Outlaw, Jack, Diop, Stackhouse, George, picks and cash in the Nets' hands and they are expecting something even better.

Where do they find these idiots to invent this stuff? Is there a "Peter Vecsey School of Journalism" in NJ maybe? Or perhaps it's something in the water. But whatever the cause, it's pure dreck we're getting.

It would be an awesome deal for Portland.

But, if the Mavs were willing to give up Harris, I would think New Jersey would want him.

That rumor page gave me a headache to read and click on every link. Makes me glad I am here

The way I see it, that trade (if it is real) is not divulging other principles of the trade. My bet is that the Mavs are not trading Harris, but instead Terry to Portland (near his hometown of Seattle). Por would be sending players to here and same with the NJ. We would get a backup C out of the deal. Probably either Magloire or Pryzbilla. Like someone mentioned on another thread, we would need a SG/SF because of George and Stack would be gone. The bottom line is the Mavs shopping list would have to be extremely inexpensive due to Kidd's enormous salary. Bottom line is inserting Terry in instead of Harris makes the world of difference.

Harris will not get traded... If they took him out of previous trade talks involving Iverson, Kobe, etc. What makes you think that they would include him now?

Terry instead of Harris makes a world of difference to all teams. I can't imagine Portland would trade Jack, Outlaw and Joel for Jason Terry.

Too bad the Twins GM isn't in charge of the Nets cause after seeing what he gave up Santana for I think we could get Kidd for Ager, JJB, two courtside tickets, and a Mavs Maniaac.

The Przbilla idea is interesting. That would make sense if Diop was going.

And I think Kidd and Harris would play well together. At this stage of his career, Kidd is a better SG defender than a PG defender.

But without Harris, I don't see what Portland would want. Terry does not makes sense for them.

I'm against Harris+ for Kidd for many reasons I mentioned in several trade threads. The issue for me isn't whos better (obviousy Kidd), but the fact that it takes teams a long time to get to stable position like we are in now where we are contending for many years. To lose Harris who has been invaluable this season plus our depth is big.

Hollinger has a nice take on the Harris-Kidd in his "Top Sleepers" article, which basically says that we should be aware that we are trading for a 2008 Kidd, not a 2003 Kidd. The mavs biggest needs are not PG, and I don't see us gutting our team for that position. If we lose Diop in this trade as well, well I guess we should leave our hopes on Dampier playing a full game without getting into foul trouble and being consistent...

The fact is: Harris provides an invaluable aspect to this team. He drives to the basket, plays great D on the small, quick guards on the West that we will play in the playoffs, and has a bright future. Kidd is an HOF pg, but our time is more limited AND we lose some of the cogs in our team that make it work. We could use better ball movement, but we could also use someone to push the tempo and score.

I think kidd would adapt to fit a team. Given all of the small things he does so well, he would be a disruption but not to the degree of say Iverson

I heard the Dallas-Portland-NJ rumor on espn yesterday. There's obviously nothing to it, but if Harris was traded I would love to see him in Portland. He'd be the perfect fit for them.
