SA and GS Adding Depth

Post#1 » by HMFFL » Wed Jan 30, 2008 7:57 pm

Damon Stoudamire is expected to sign with the Spurs once he clears waivers.

Chris Webber signs with the Warriors.

Spurs eye Stoudamire
Once Damon Stoudamire clears waivers tomorrow morning, the veteran point guard is expected to sign with the Spurs, according to an NBA source. Spurs guard Tony Parker is out indefinitely with a bone spur in his left heel, according to ESPN.com. The NBA didn't finalize Stoudamire's buyout with the Grizzlies until yesterday morning, and he needs 48 hours to clear waivers. The Celtics have been on the lookout for a veteran point guard and had some interest in Stoudamire. Rumors persist that they have interest in Clippers veteran Sam Cassell, but they don't seem to have the means to make a viable trade offer. Executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge has said he wants to sign "the right veteran point guard" while adding, "We like our roster. We like who we are. We like the chemistry and the way our guys play together."

I must admit, I have a bad taste in my mouth with the recent signings of Chris, and now Damon will most likely become a Spur. I can't trust our current roster to take us deep into the playoffs and I hope we can acquire some depth before the trade deadline.

I really don't think we have to worry about Webber & the Warriors in the Playoffs, I think Webber is a horrendous fit for the Warriors unless they change their style of play while he's in the game, which would make them not as effective.

Both of these guys are scrubs. The Mavs already have much better players in depth to give their minutes to.

Stoudamire and Webber aren't going to be big difference makers. I'm not worried.

Webber will contain Brandan Bass, that's a big difference for GS.

By keeping him off the offensive glass and limiting those easy putbacks. Webber is still an excellent rebounder.

^^ Yeah he is, but he has to be on the floor in order to rebound. I don't see him getting on the floor very much. Plus, Bass is "Mr. Under the Radar" - no one really knows what he's capable of...
If we could just close games with Luka, Kyrie, Green, Maxi, and Wood that'd be great...

It's easy to think that way, but the Spurs have a candy way of giving a player a role and having them thrive at it. I'm worried about any contenders adding more depth.

Now the Lakers have updated their team with the addition of Pau Gasol.

I have to disagree with the Warriors having trouble making the post-season. I reall don't se Dallas getting out of the first round at all. Any team they play would give them fits man. Lakers, Warriors, Hornets, and Jazz will put you guys in your place right away.

And yet we are 5-2 against those teams.
