check out the link.. it's an article by david lord from dallasbasketball.com....

he talks about how dallas should move "forward" with its competition in response to recent "bulking up" in the west....

here's an idea of his scenario....

It could look something like this:
* Dallas sends Terry and a #1 pick to LAC, and sends George, Ager, Juwan, Fazekas, R Terry, and a No. 1 pick to Memphis.
* Dallas gets Maggette from LAC and gets Miller and Lowry from Memphis.
* LAC sends Maggette to Dallas and sends Williams to Memphis.
* LAC gets Terry and a No. 1 pick from Dallas.
* Memphis sends Miller and Lowry to Dallas.
* Memphis gets Williams from LAC and gets George, Ager, Juwan, Fazekas, R Terry, and a No. 1 pick from Dallas.

in another thread, we were talking about getting either maggette or miller... in this scenario, we get BOTH... one of them becomes our new sixth man with terry's departure...

Too good to be true... I dont think Dallas will be doing anything this year.

And 6 guaranteed contracts for 2 would leave us with 11 player (I did not read the article; don't know if he mentioned buyouts)

Mavs are then left with this

Harris/Lowry/Barea
Magette/Jones
Howard/Miller/Stack
Dirk/Bass
Damp/Diop

That is a winner. Mavs get great long range shooting, but problem may still be ability to get into the lane

Instead of gutting the team for both why not go get one? Hell they probably could if they really wanted Miller send KVH's "one year deal", Ager and a 1st in 09'.

The articles throws out an idea for both, but he mostly says just make a significant trade. Get Maggette, Miller, Artest, or do something aggressive.

I can buy that type of move. Hope it happens.

Miami may be interested in Jason Terry + Maurice Ager for Jason Williams, Smush Parker, Miami 2nd

Dallas gives: Jason Terry
Dallas gets: Swingman X, Smush Parker

Miami gets: Jason Terry
Miami gives: Jason Williams, Smush Parker, 2nd round pick

Team X gets: Jason Williams, Miami 2nd
Team X gives: Swingman X

Swingman X examples:
Mike Miller
Mike Dunleavy
Corey Maggette (add Dal 1st)
Ron Artest (add Dal 1st)
Caron Butler (Add 2 Dallas 1st and Brandon Bass)
Gerald Wallace (Add 2 Dallas 1sts and Brandon Bass)
Michael Redd (Add 2 Dallas 1st, Bass, George's expiring, Smush has to come via TE)

Of course, I'm never sure which teams will bite on dumping salary

I wouldn't do that Miami deal unless the Mavs in the same trade could swing those contracts for a significant contributor (like Miller?). I understood the article and agree with it, but I don't see him saying (and I'd never favor) to get rid of Terry for nothing.

On your list, I can see Miller or Maggette or Artest or Dunleavy available (but I would never want Dunleavy), while I can't see Butler or Wallace or Redd being available at all. Is that about everyone who might make sense?

I doesn't work in trade checker. If it happens, I'm all for it.

both of these express how I feel - while getting both would be good one would suffice and cost less chemistry-wise...

Maggette can drive...
Harris can drive...
you have to post your C up high but that happens so very often with DAL already...

Dirk, Howard, Maggette, and Devin can all get to the basket. Dirk has improved his game around the basket, and all 4 of those guys can hit a 3 if they're left open at the very least. So when Devin drives, he can kick it if he's not feeling the layup. Same with Maggette.

Another thing is, that now Phoenix has two of the most prolific foulers in the league on their team (Amare, Shaq) a guy like Maggette who can get to the rim and draw a foul is even more useful.

I like Terry and his intensity, but I'd much rather have Maggette with his ability to hit the outside shot and realistically drive on a regular basis.

I like Miller's shot and hustle.
I like Maggette's slashing ability and athletisism
I like Ron-Ron's defense and post up ability.

If any of those are available, I would attempt to get them

FGump: I was hesitant on Dunleavy myself, but he is a taller, better rebounding Terry. If all it took was Terry, I'd do it, but you are right, I would not add anything else (i.e. picks) to get hime.

Butler & Wallace was a pipe dream....Gasol to the Lakers for Brown and picks was a pipedream for the Lakers and it happened. Who knows?

Redd is rumored to be available, and if we could get him in that 3 way were we lose Terry, George, Bass & 2 picks and they gets Bass, picks and salary relief, who knows there also?

I'm all for getting better at the SG but would be somewhat hesitant on giving up Bass unless we could get a decent big man in return. Phoenix will pound the ball inside and Bass is a good fit for the Mavs in that situation. Not that he will stop those guys, but we will either need to play both Diop and Damp at the same time, or have Dirk guard either Shaq or Amare which is a scary thought. There may be similar problems with the Lakers.

Bass allows Avery to go with a jumbo front line of Bass, Dirk, and Damp without the risk of getting Dirk into foul trouble. Plus, that lineup will give Phoenix and maybe even the Lakers some problems on the defensive end.

I think Bass' and Diop's roles will increase with this team as the season progresses.

with JO available, do you think the Mavs would be looking to make a move for him to counter the recent trades?

^^ i doubt dallas presses the panic mode and jump into the trading bandwagon.... i highly doubt cuban would make that knee jerk reaction...

but IMO, Jermaine Oneal is better than gasol or shaq... so if dallas made any move for him, it would be a statement..

but after everything, dallas wouldnt trade for JO as indy would probably want harris or howard plus fillers in return... but as a fan, i definitely would want to see a ron artest and jermaine oneal reunion in big D... avery would love the defense...
