Hi,

Has there been any talk about possibilities for Brand in Dallas? The clippers could then build around Kaman and Thornton plus whoever they acquire. Would Dallas have the salary or the pieces to make it happen?

The only 6'8" post playing PF in Dallas is BRANDon Bass.

We don't want or need a 15+ mil version of our $0.77 mil Bass.



Now if our franchise player was Elton Brand, then we would not need Bass, but since our francshise PF is Dirk, we'd rather have the poor man's Brand at 1/20 the cost.

I love Elton Brand's game, one of my favorite players before he got injured.

Would love to have him, have heard no talks about this as there is a .0001% chance this would happen.

The Mavs would find a way to fit Brand into the lineup.

But they don't have the the right assets for a trade.

Brandon Bass is as close to Elton Brand as Steve Novak is to Dirk Nowitzki.

Prior to last year, yes, but you cannot make that judgment yet. I want to see Brand when healthy.

1) I don't think even a healthy Brand would play 38 MPG in Dallas as he would not even be the best PF on the team.
2) A healthy Brand would not be the star here in Dallas, thus scoring per min would be down as well (blks & reb should be around the same per min...IF HEALTHY).
3) Knowing that, it's not too far fetched to say a) Brand would have Bass like numbers in Dallas and moreso b) a post injury Brand would have Bass-like numbers in Dallas.

And regardless of projecting what one will think their impacts are next year, the difference between the 29yo Brand and the 22yo Bass would not be justified paying 15+ mil more nor figuring out what players should be added to make the salery work (Stack, Hassell). And if you are expecting a Harris, Howard type player....might as well forget it!

Bass will never become 1/4 of what Brand was even in his rookie season... Brand coming to Dallas is not going to happen... Not when Miami and the Clippers are going to be throwing everything theyve got at him.

Even playing half the minutes, he is alreeady 1/3 of Brand. Per min, he is 2/3s of a a healthy Brand. And there simply is not evidence that a 6'8" PF coming off of a ruptured Achilles tendon would even be 2/3s of his own self.

And since Brand and Bass would both be the backup PF, I take the one paid 5% of the other one.

im not talking about any packages. we arent getting him with what we'd want to give up. thats a no brainer. you're just so enamored with Bass over Brand. its ridiculous. theres a reason brand is a star. yet if he joins the mavs he'll barely be better or maybe even equal to Bass according to whatever 'logic' you used to determine that. my point is that your man-love for Bass is making you think loopy.

In case you haven't notice by now, there are always tradeoffs in in trades and I always look at that. No need to even think about Brand via trade when there is no package we will like that can match his salary.

Now if we are talking about Elton Brand of last year vs Bass of this this year AND looking at nothing but swapping players (neglecting matching salary, tax hit, age, injury, etc.) then, obviously it's a no brainer. However, Brand is 7 years older, Brand has about a 1% chance of ever reaching another all-star game, Brand makes 15.5 mil vs Bass' 0.7 mil and Brand would cost us about 12-18 mil of other players. He is not that much of an upgrade to Bass who is doing a more than adequate job as Dirk's backup.

On another note, IF Brand opts out this year and IF Brand can be more than 2/3s his former self (I'm still thinking of how the 6'9" Wallace is not as effective anymore) and IF Brand thinks he and the Mavs are a good fit and IF he settles for the MLE, then we can talk about Brand to the Mavs and use Bass + Stack for a Miller, Artest, Maggette type. However, there are too many if's that won't be satisfied there to even concider Brand too the Mavs

I think JES12's point is the difference in salary and the role he would play.
In other words, it is better to have Bass as a backup at the salary he is making instead of having a log jam and over 30m tied up in PFs.

if DAL somehow lucked into Brand then obviously he's playing C when Dirk's at PF or he's playing PF when Dirk's at SF (like Avery has done this season with Dirk-Bass-Damp/Diop lineups)

assuming he comes back from injury okay then there is no way from a talent standpoint you could turn down putting Brand on this roster...

Sometimes you have to take big risks to win.

Brand is coming off an injury, but if he returns to prior form, he would be the perfect fit beside Dirk at the 3 spot. Why not offer the Clippers Josh and Terry. The Clippers may see Brand's injury as a career ender and want to trade him.

And comparing Brand to Bass is ridiculous. Brand is Bass x 10. He's the best offensive rebounder in the game today and would upgrade the Mavs inside game tremendously.

I don't trade Josh and JET for Brand no matter how much better he is than Bass. Dallas primarily needs a SG so if Brand magically came back as an offensive rebounding and post up Maggette I would consider that trade.

Otherwise we are making a bigger hole on the roster to take a risk on a player coming back from injury who, when healthy, primarily plays the position our BEST PLAYER already fills. NO THANKS!

Sometimes there is TOO MUCH of a good thing...
Let's discuss it when we have 5 legit starters at their proper positions.
Otherwise we already have an adequate backup 4: Brandon Bass.
