Long lost rookie to return:
Nick Fazekas, the Mavericks' top draft pick last June, has been at Tulsa in the Development League most of the season, but Johnson said the 6-10 forward probably will rejoin the Mavericks after the All-Star break.

Fazekas will be in New Orleans for the Feb. 16 D-League All-Star Game, which is staged the day before the NBA's game.

"He's gone down there and played well, and for him to be a part of the All-Star Game is good recognition," Johnson said. "We'll probably get him back after All-Star weekend for us. He's a prime candidate for the NBDL. That's why we want to show that it works. He's improved, and we want him to continue to improve."

From the article named "Dallas Mavericks' centers face tall task" in "The Dallas Mourning News".

Nick Fazekas averages 19.9 PPG and 9.9 RPG in 28 games for Tulsa.

This will be our best move before the trade deadline.

20/10 man we could use that as a backup at 4 and 5 plus Bass would get mins at the 3 and 4. Sounds like it makes us more versatile and gets us some needed inside scoring.

I still do not buy his inside street cred yet. I think it will be interesting to watch, and possibly add an aspect the mavs sorely lack. Hope he can do it, but I am skeptical

Is anyone else thinking the Faz will only be good as a Dirk's replacement in case of injury? I just don't see Faz and Dirk being out on the floor at the same time. Maybe Faz & Bass, but not Faz & Dirk.

I disagree. I think the Mavs view Faz as a different type of option at Center. In the summer league Faz played almost exclusively at Center. He sets a pretty good pick and could be more of a threat on a pick and roll/pop than either Damp or Diop. I think when this team is in need of some offense and the other team is not spending much time worrying about Damp or Diop then Faz would come in to help spark the offense.

So I could definitely see them play Dirk and Faz together. I do see Faz also replacing Dirk with Faz on occassion however I still think that Faz will see more time at Center than PF.

I was not aware that he was a good pick setter. If that is true, he would play the pick & pop better, but Damp would still play the pick & roll better, IMO.
