George may un-veto trade?

Post#1 » by cmavswin » Thu Feb 14, 2008 4:49 am

The Ticket is saying because George's agent is traveling that is the reason why the deal got vetoed for now. George wants to talk to his agent before he ok's it to see what his options are and what happens to him. He does not mind going to NJ because he and RJ are very good friends. Sounds like this deal will get done the way it is.

George is going to accept the trade... The Mavs front office would make his life a living hell if he is the reason this trade fell through (even though I dont mind either way)... This is just ludacris on Devean's part though, he just told Mark and Avery "play me or trade me" and now he is blocking a trade?

I just think he wants to get paid, not so much an extension.

DG has the chance to get paid by playing for NJ. He needs time on the court to prove to the franchises around the league he still has what it takes and he needs to let his game speak. On the other hand he's not seeing the court with Dallas and that's another reason why he needs to accept the move.

He should know that if he doesn't let us make this deal, we're not going to play him, and it's going to hurt him more in the long run.

Yes, it'd be a pain in the ass if we were in his shoes, but he's a ball player, he should know what he's into.

Actually we should play him. It's not like we are loaded with depth we can count on. I want DG on the court! We only hurt ourselves by holding a grudge and benching a player that is much better compared to some of his teammates.

Pay him? Why? With all that's going on it's going to kill our chemistry. Look what happened to the Bulls.

The problem is, our chemistry is effed since the trade included so many players (besides Stack), there will be tension within the locker room because Cubes was going to let go of Diop, Goerge, Devin, and Ager. How do you think they'll feel if they heard, "yeah we're shipping you off to New Jersey, have fun." Only hours later to find out, "Oh, welcome back!" Not a good look.

I think George will come around though, I respect him as a ball player, but he has to realize he's not going to get much else money. At least, I don't think so.

Also, what is "The Ticket?"

This has to suck. I don't know why DG is trying to block it but I'm pretty sure it can't get done right away...

If he wants an extension, he's not going to get traded...simple as that.

If NJN is trying to move Kidd, they aren't going to be looking at DG as a future building block...that means they aren't going to want him long term.

DAL can't offer him an extension once he's traded and he can't be traded back to the Mavs. DG would be STUPID to take a "wink wink" extension after he blocked the trade...no way they hold up their end of the bargain, considering the headache he's caused on his way out.

DG better stay put. He won't be happy but it's the best thing for him. Even if DAL doesn't play him, they will still hold his Bird Rights and can get him more money in a S&T...I'm sure his agent isn't particularly confident of his player being able to command much on the open market without the "Brid Rights" to grease the way...

How much money does Devean George think he'll make in the open market that losing his bird rights would be a significant hit to his salary potential?

I think he and his agent will realize this and just let the deal go through.

I don't think Devon cares about his future that much, I think he cares more about the present. He wants to play. He's been complaining about sitting on the bench this year to Avery. He'll probably call up the head coach of NJ and ask him if he can start. Once the coach (don't know his name) tells him that he'll get to start or at least get 25 minutes a game, then he'll agree to go.

All the b.s. about contracts means nothing cause George knows he isn't a big name player anyway.

George will come around, he just needs to look at all his options, and do what's best for himself. I don't necessary believe he'd get looked at badly from his fellow teammates if he held his current stance. Theres a players union and they normally stick together. Donnie and Mark knew there was a chance DG would use his rights, and they needed a backup plan.

You play DG because we all know what he can do for this team with consistent minutes. I don't want him riding the bench when I feel he's an upgrade over some of our guys that are seeing the court. I'm not saying he's part of the future, but he needs to see the court with all the injuries we have, and I feel he can be productive on most nights.

That has been my argument. He will not even get MLE. S&T is possible, but not so much as he was free last year and had no offers or the year before. He has not played this year, and will not be a needed piece except in a trade.
