is watchign the 'experts' basically say getting Kidd makes less of an impact than Shaq or Gasol. That the Mavs still are barely contenders. I seem to recall us beating the top teams when we are healthy. Am i wrong? That loud-mouthed dumbass POS Steven A Smith on espn keeps talkign about how we basically arent gonna do anythign in the playoffs and the Lakers and Suns made the best moves.
I still think the Suns are better with Marion. Yes the Lakers are better with Gasol, but if say the Mavs picked up Gasol, he would just say that it wont mean a thing cuz Gasol is soft, no heart, blah blah blah. Its all about the team he went to. If he went to the Mavs, he's barely better than Diop. He goes to a "hip" type team like the Lakers, and he's the difference maker in the West. Its just BS man. The only ones i've seen talkign about the trade without some sort of anti-Mavs bias are the guys like Ric Bucher, who dont have an agenda or biases or favor certain teams to maintain street cred, etc.

Im guessing you are referring to Stephen A., John Hollinger, Bill Walton, etc.? Yeah, in case you havent been reading for the past 8 years, ESPN does NOT like the Mavs. With the exception of Marc Stein, you arent going to find a positive article on Dallas.

I think if you got Gasol to play in the frontline with Dirk and Howard you'd be complete favorites.
I hear what you are saying though... although Gasol could be a bigger impact for the Lakers, you were considerably better than the Lakers to start.
That said, people have been doubting my team (the Pistons) for years both before and after winning the championship. They were 8-1 underdogs in the finals against the Lakers. 8-1!
Your team didn't do so great as the favorites last year, so I think perhaps being underdogs and overlooked could be a good thing. Why do you feel the need to have the media calling you the best? That's meaningless unless you win the championship.
So get over it.

The truth is nobody knows how this trade is gonna work out. It could be the move that puts us over the top, or it could be a disaster like Antoine Walker.

i dont feel the need for my team to be called the best, i think its just bs that these guys overlook the importance of adding a player like Kidd. If he went to another team, they'd lay so much praise on it. But, he just barely makes us good enough to get out of the first round, accordign to them. Its stupid. First, they don't really think much about us in general, eventhough before this rash of injuries we were still one of the top teams, AND that was with the Mavs generally agreed to be playing subpar basektball for their standards. NOw you add one of the best floor generals in the game and it makes barely a ripple in their minds. My whole point was not that they believe the Mavs are the best, but the double standards. If Kidd went elsewhere, its a great move for that team. If Gasol came here, they'd talk about all his negatives but sice he went to LA, he's now the man who will be the final piece ot the puzzle.

Yah, i know that, been a fan since about '83 or so but im just sick of hearing the bs all the time. If Kidd comes in, and we get back to being the badasses that we SHOULD be, will these ****, admit they were wrong, NO. only walton would im sure. Just saw Stephen A SMith speak and thats what prompted me to rant. You KNOW he would hate Gasol if he went anywhere but the Lakers or Philly or some team like that. If he came to the Mavs he would go nuts talking about him being soft and not having balls, etc.

What they go on is success, we're not the Lakers who have numerous titles, we're not the Spurs who have 4 of the last 9, we haven't won a title, and until we do, we'll always be underdogs. How many key pieces to our team have won championships? That's all that really needs to be said.
Now, I love this team, but I have no problem with what people say, I don't mind people underestimating us, saying we have no chance, but that's just fine with me.

All we can do is acquire Kidd and observe the success from there. From what has happened the last two years even tho yeah it is pretty annoying all these analysts have the right to talk about us the way they do, choking to both miami and gs after great seasons, dirk winning the mvp...right after being knocked out...etc. the only way we can change this doubt is to prove our self and make a strong push towards the playoffs. we need to stop playing with an on/off switch, deciding when we want to blow teams out and play the mavericks basketball that we know. if we play with fire ever game (ex. the dismantling of the warriors in january along with the destruction to the pistons at dallas...) we will be the best team in the league no doubt, all we need is consistency.

I think there is some merit to what they say. The mavs have proved nothing and I don't think our chances this season were as good as the past 2 seasons even without any of the trades over the past month or so.
Trading for Kidd doesn't make us clear favorites by any means but it does give us a better opportunity.
I think the West is completely up for grabs because there are at least 6 teams that have a legit shot at the championship.

the thing is though that the suns and lakers just got bigger and stronger
lakers added gasol for nothing and the suns traded 6"7' for 7"1' and about an extra 50kgs. so adding kidd and losing diop might improve you talent wise but in the league where all these commentators think "size matters" (believe me as a suns fan thats all ive heard about the last 3 years) of course thats what they are going to say
i dont buy that size is everything, a good small ball team can win for sure and you guys arent even small ball, but the media loves size, the lakers and suns added size, so of course the media would be all over the lakers and suns
if the mavs got shaq and the suns got kidd, believe me, they would all be saying the mavs did better
only time will tell who is right, honestly, screw what most of those guys say anyways

I think I'd take the opinion of about 1/4 the posters on realgm more seriously than Stephen Smith.
Who cares what that guy says? He just says stuff to be controversial. I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch about anything he says, he's a tool.
Personally, I don't think Kidd will improve your win rate much either. But, I guess I'm willing to wait and see if he does or not.

With HARRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Durrrrr!
This is a step backwards and they are completely right! We are less of a competetor now than we were with harris.

yes, and i knew someone would say that, and naturally its you. but i think Kidd brings more to the table than Harris does. so we beat these teams before, and now i think we are even better than before.

And I respect your opinion, but I have to see this group be
even close in the games against the Jazz, the Hornets, the Spurs, the lakers, the Celtics, the Suns and the Nuggets before I can believe that this team is better.
I may be completely wrong, but my opinion is of the masses of all the sports writers. I really, really think we just took a step backwards and gave two picks away to allow us to do that to ourselves. Even Stern tried saving up from this mistake.

the mass media thinks we made a good deal to get kidd, but most think it wont help given the recent shaq and gasol trade. even the local media undervalued harris i thought
im on the fence on this and wont be that confident about it unless we can get another big man in here

well hopefully we'll add a center, really come together under Kidd and Dirk's leadership, watch Kidd make Dirk even better and turn JHo into a superstar, win the title, win the following year's title, make a JHo type end of first round future star pick of a PG in the 2009 draft, groom him for a year under Kidd, win the title, have the PG take over in 2010 and still be a contender. then we'll all look back and agree this was the move to make.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Only 1/4? I would take almost everyone on realGM's opinions over Stephen A's. That dude just lacks a brain. I mean, it's not his fault. God was unkind to him. But still, for a guy who knows nothing he talks wayyyyy too much.
Of course, as a Mavs fan I am optimistic about this trade like *most* other DAL fans but obviously we gave up a lot and so we'll have to see how this team meshes. If we don't work then we don't work. Simple as that. The team will fall apart, we will trade Dirk, Howard and Kidd, tank a few seasons and start over. BUT. IF we do work, I don't see how our line-up isn't all the more scary with a motivated HOF PG running the show rather than Harris [who is good as well, but come on he ain't Kidd good].
Dampier
Nowitzki
Howard
Terry
Kidd
I'd like to see ANY team try and stop that line-up if we mesh. Of course, that's a big IF. High risk, high reward. But so is the Shaq to Suns trade but BSPN is all over the Suns' nuts.
