How would you guys grade the personnel moves that have been made since Cuban bought the Mavs? If I left any out please add them...

This is the trade that started it all. Nick was huge for the Mavs but if the Nuggets drafted Boozer with the #25 it would have been a huge bust.

I think this is the best trade Cuban made. The Mavs literally stole Jamison! Also staying with the trend moving older PG's right before they wash out

Would you trade Jamison for Dampier & Kidd? That's what it looks like the players involved in this trade were turned into.
The Mavs then trade Jamison & cash for Stackhouse, Laettner, & Devin Harris.


Would everyone else agree that the worst move the Mavs have made since Cuban bought the team was to give Finley the max contract? I believe if Finley wasn't maxed the Nash would still be in Dallas... (and possibly Nellie)

don't forget resigning Hendu after MIL waived him in the KVH trade
that was genius under-the-table maneuver

the Pavel trade was horrendous in retrospect
DAL could have kept its pick and drafted Linas Klezia or David Lee

i was fine with the pavel thing b/c if he'd have developed you got a 7'5 guy and they dont come by often

I'd grade Mavs personnel moves as follows (and because every team hits some and misses others, this is the only fair way, in my opinion).

After Cuban owned Mavs ... 3 60-win seasons, WORST season was 52w (53, 57, 60, 52, 58, 60, 67)

Before Cuban owned Mavs* ... best playoffs = 1 trip to WC Finals
After Cuban owned Mavs ... best playoffs = 1 trip to NBA Finals, plus another to WC Finals

Before Cuban owned Mavs* ... playoff series won = 4
After Cuban owned Mavs ...playoff series won = 8

If you look at the details, there's always gonna be good and bad. But if you look at the total, it's an A+.





*I'm counting the partial season where Cuban bought the team in the middle of the year as "before Cuban"

My favorite trade (aside from Tractor Traylor for Dirk) that happened under Cuban is the Walker and Delk for JET trade... Mark Cuban has been blessed with some great personnel moves under his management

Just think how far this franchise has come...

When Dirk wasn't the second coming of Larry Bird this first couple of seasons he would get booed.
Nash's first year when he was quietly playing on a messed up ankle would look like he was dribbling out of control and would get booed after a turn over or a fall.

To bad that Cuban and Nellie got sideways with each other because they were a great combo.

I think a Little General may have gotten in between them.

Nah, I'm pretty sure Nellie went bezerk when he was told about not matching the Suns offer.

Mamadou N'Diaye's missing from that list

Walker actually wasn't that bad for us. He was averaging a double-double for the first half of the season while playing out of position and led Dallas to its first win at L.A. in years. And he was an absolute monster as our small ball center. He didn't play defense, but then again, so did everyone else except for our prized rooks.

the line that Cuban issued wherein DAL could not afford to sign Nash and S&T for Damp still irks me.

I bought into the idea that you don't give a huge contract to an older PG that was injury prone during his time in DAL, but please - saying you won't have enough money to S&T a player and resign your FA is too much for me...

When Walker wasn't shooting 3's he was great. I think one of his problems was his conditioning.

he really was great. his ball handling and passing ability was incredible for his size, and he wasn't bad in the post. further, he rebounded like a badass too. the 3's and the laziness were the problem though. and a huge problem.

Now that you mentioned it, I'm starting to think that part of Queasy's success was a result of Nash and Walker feeding him alley-oops, lobs, and creating switches for him to abuse smaller defenders at the post.
