Dallas big man

Post#1 » by andykeikei » Mon Feb 18, 2008 11:35 pm

Just curious, after the Kidd's trade, there is only Dampier left to guard the center of the opposing team. Are you going to sign a free agent big man or make another trade?
I mean you can't be satisfied when Juwan Howard is your back up center. (And he is going to be waived soon)

IBTL.... Anyways, Bass (not that hes a good center) will be used a lot at that position... Im hoping we can make a trade for another center, but there are not a lot of options out there that would actually improve our roster

two days left before the deadline... so i doubt any follow up trades will happen... avery would most probably ride bass and juwan in the playoffs to play backup center mintues... after all, juwan still has some gas left in the tank.. he was barely used all season after being a starting PF in houston...

if there will be follow up trades in compliment to the kidd aquisition, it would most probably be in the offseason...

If we don't get another center now, the Kidd deal makes absolutely no sense.
Someone needs to tell Avery that Bass, Juwan, and Dirk are not centers and Damp is a little gimpy this season. In fact, I'd be more comfortable if we could acquire 2 centers.

1. Sign PJ
2. Trade Juwan for Booth for insurance.

This would be a fairly easy way to address our current needs without giving up any important players.

Kidd/Barea
Terry/Stack/Jones/Wright
Howard/George
Dirk/Bass/Allen
Damp/PJ/Booth

not really... if they had the choice, im sure the mavs organization would have done the deal in the offseason... but if they do it that way, devin's poison pill provision kicks in and diop would be a free agent...

i honestly dont think any follow up trades will pop up before the deadline... they probably did the trade now to just "experiment" the team going into the playoffs and see what more is needed to be done... it will also help build some chemistry, at least.. a starting PG meshing well with the team is better than a backup center.. so getting one in the offseason wouldnt really hurt... besides, we have 3.5 seasons to ride kidd so its ok if we dont win one this season... maybe next season when were more prepared...

who knows, if things dont go all too well for the lakers, kobe might just cry his way out for a trade or he'll threaten to just walk away from LA...

cuban might just throw in JET + howard for kobe! heck cuban could play backup center for that team and we'd probably still win a ring with kidd/kobe/dirk!!!

I have to disagree with you on this one arkuo. I don't see the mavs making this type of move to only experiment. If Kidd was 30 I might see it that way but not at 35. This move was for this season as much as the next 3. If I was a betting man, I'd bet that another move will happen.
I'd hate to resort to a 45 yr old Willis at the last minute again.
Damp's injury and being foul prone is something that should be of great concern.
If you look at that lineup that I posted, we could lose anyone on that roster with the exception of Kidd and Dirk and still have a decent shot at the championship. As it stands now, if we lose Damp, the chances of getting through the west would be very slim.
It is too risky to not add some type of insurance at the center spot.

You wish. Kobe will be the one who knocks out the Mavericks and Dirk is going to demand a trade to the Lakers for Lamar Odom. Then we'll win a championship while resting Kobe for 5 games then Dirk for 5 games then Pau for 5 games then Bynum for 5 games and still have the best record in the NBA. Then they'll be all fresh and healthy come playoffs and we'll be the only team to grab 16-0.
